I don't know why you lick Friedman's balls so much, he seriously fucked our country, according to the article of course

The regime of irredeemable currency and the so-called welfare state are Siamese twins.

Thanks Milton!

alan greenspan has been saying this for 30 years

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-17 0:12

From what I draw from the article >>6 posted, he is saying that government should still make money, but not with the federal reserve (a private interest) involved, and extended further, that the government should back all it's currency with gold?

Am I interpreting this correctly?

its more about how gold should be used to keep government/banks honest and avoid depressions. alan greenspan described it very well, see for yourself

This doesn't change the validity of his other ideas.  The videos are still a good watch for much of the other stuff.

nice clip; whats it from?

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-18 11:27

i'm not exactly clear on how the american fed works, but the way it works here is that the fed is seperate from the government, it has a certain amount of money with which to buy/sell currency, and in times of monetary calm, the profit it may make from buying/selling foreign currency goes to the state coffers.
Apparently the surplus the american fed makes goes to some private person?

American fed reserve works the same

whats wrong with the gold standard?
Only farmers are affected by it, and they're lower than what it was 70 years ago when we went off the gold standard, also farmers make shit loads of money thanks to tech advances

Im not >>8 but the gold standard can't work anymore, we need it for industry. The item you backup your currency with must always and only be a luxury item; gold is more then that now, just look at the electronics in the medical industry. Some say silver could make a comeback but I don’t think it has high enough objective value for this role, however if it were up to me I would go with diamonds or other precious stones

Diamonds and precious stones can be manufactured too, and they have numerous industrial uses, ie. cutting, machining, smart materials, etc.

These vids are pure win.  Props.

You can use gold to back currency still. What's important is that the item you use to back your money is scarce, valuable, and retains it's value. That gold can now be utilized as a tool just means it is more valuable than it was before, as demand is greater.

we should backup our currency with NUKES, URANIUM, DIRTYBOMBS,RAILGUNS AND OTHER ASSORTED WEAPONRY; these are afterall, always in demand and can be generated by the state. whose with me?

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-23 3:17

It would have to be redeemable and something that most people want. If you wouldn't redeem dollars with nukes and other weapons, you wouldn't back a currency with it. And most people aren't terribly interested in owning those things.

Gold..

The Federal Reserve is a huge part of the problem too.  The private bankers have a pretty slick deal going on with the feds currently, and it is coming at the people's expense.
