So yeah emo.. a swear word in some circles, but what does it really mean? I see emo kids all over the place and want to beat the shit out of them, but what exactly is this emo shit other than cutting and crying and writing in a blog?

sadness and pain...everyone wants to see me fail. The world is spinning on its axis of darkness. Everyone is evil. No truth exists. We should all just die and end the suffering before the bleeding eye of heaven rains darksness and hellfire upon us
People who listen to EMO = Fags who need a reality check.

Emo => depends on your definition. You can see it as some kid who's depressed and cuts or you can see it as someone who simply enjoys feeling the spectrum of emotions, both good and bad. I don't consider myself emo, more of a romantic, but emo kids have a bad rap without real justification. Try to get to know one maybe?

One of my friends decided to jump on the emo bandwagon. Try as I might, I haven't been able to carry on a conversation with him without wanting to smash his face into a wall for several months as a result.

It's kind of funny. Recently I realized the word "pathetic" basically just means "full of emotion" - it's the opposite of "apathetic" (pathos = emotion). It's strange that every word that means emotional tends to just kind of move towards meaning "total loser" eventually.
so basically "emo" is a musical genre that draws from punk/rock, emphasizing on the vocalist, to give out the message : "life sucks"
As time goes, the "emo" genre has become a subculture and lyfestyle. In accordance with the music, the "emo" people are trying to look sad and depressed.

I once fucked an emo girl. The bitch was really sad because I didn't cry when I came. I charged her double for that.
Emo is a terrible phenomenon. I see emo kids all the time as well, and like you, I also want to smack them around. The terrible thing about emo is that a lot of times, the emo kids don't even realize that they are emo. I say this because when I look at these dumb ass teens, I hate them so much, but when I think about it, I know that >I< was emo when I was their age..... but I didn't realize how fucking stupid I was at the time. And if someone told me that I was emo, I wouldn't have understood. Sad, but it seems like nothing can cure emo except just letting those dumb ass kids grow up.

Originally an arty outgrowth of hardcore punk, emo became an important force in underground rock by the late '90s, appealing to modern-day punks and indie-rockers alike. Some emo leans toward the progressive side, full of complex guitar work, unorthodox song structures, arty noise, and extreme dynamic shifts; some emo is much closer to punk-pop, though it's a bit more intricate. Emo lyrics are deeply personal, usually either free-associative poetry or intimate confessionals. Though it's far less macho, emo is a direct descendant of hardcore's preoccupations with authenticity and anti-commercialism; it grew out of the conviction that commercially oriented music was too artificial and calculated to express any genuine emotion. Because the emo ideal is authentic, deeply felt emotion that defies rational analysis, the style can be prone to excess in its quest for ever-bigger peaks and releases. But at its best, emo has a sweeping power that manages to be visceral, challenging, and intimate all at once. The groundwork for emo was laid by Hüsker Dü's 1984 landmark Zen Arcade, which made it possible for hardcore bands to tackle more personal subject matter and write more tuneful and technically demanding songs. Emo emerged in Washington, D.C. not long after, amidst the remnants of the hardcore scene that had produced Minor Threat and Bad Brains. The term "emo" (sometimes lengthened to "emocore") was initially used to describe hardcore bands who favored expressive vocals over the typical barking rants; the first true emo band was Rites of Spring, followed by ex-Minor Threat singer Ian MacKaye's short-lived Embrace. MacKaye's Dischord label became the center for D.C.'s growing emo scene, releasing work by Rites of Spring, Dag Nasty, Nation of Ulysses, and MacKaye's collaboration with members of Rites of Spring, Fugazi. Fugazi became the definitive early emo band, crossing over to alternative rock listeners and getting press for their uncompromisingly anti-commercial attitudes. Aside from the Dischord stable, most early emo was deeply underground, recorded by extremely short-lived bands and released on vinyl in small quantities by small labels; some vocalists literally wept onstage during song climaxes, earning derision from hardcore purists. Fugazi notwithstanding, emo didn't really break out of obscurity until the mid-'90s emergence of Sunny Day Real Estate, whose early work defined the style in the minds of many. Tempering Fugazi's gnarled guitar webs with Seattle grunge, straight-up prog-rock, and crooned vocals, SDRE launched a thousand imitators who connected with their dramatic melodies and introspective mysticism. Some of this new generation connected equally with the wry, geeky introspection and catchy punk-pop of Weezer's Pinkerton album. While several artists continued to build on Fugazi's innovations (including Quicksand and Drive Like Jehu), most '90s emo bands borrowed from some combination of Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Weezer. Groups like the Promise Ring, the Get Up Kids, Braid, Texas Is the Reason, Jimmy Eat World, Joan of Arc, and Jets to Brazil earned substantial followings in the indie-rock world, making emo one of the more popular underground rock styles at the turn of the millennium.

don't even suggest that emos have fundamentals and depth to their "culture".
Lately, I've been wanting to beat up these emo kids so fucking bad. They just get so fucking annoying! Wear black! WHINE and bitch! It's not enough that they whine in blogs and conversations...shit, they enjoy others who whine through song!
You see, I wasn't a big fan of 80's hair metal. I hated it. But this "Emo" crap is by far, the worst thing that has ever been labeled Rock N'Roll! At least bands like Warrant sung about cars, girls or food. In its core, that is what rock is about! Being young! Takin' it to the "MAN" and just fuck problems in general and dance!
Now, emo-shit bands like My Chemical Romance want to tell you about their issues with mommy and daddy, why their girlfriends don't like them anymore, and if life is worth living.
I won't even dignify these freaks by calling them fags. I think they sank much lower than the levels of mere faggottry. Some emo girls are cute, but it must be a nightmare if you're in a relationship with someone who thinks WHINING IS COOL.
