Emo?

So yeah emo.. a swear word in some circles, but what does it really mean? I see emo kids all over the place and want to beat the shit out of them, but what exactly is this emo shit other than cutting and crying and writing in a blog?

It's kind of funny.  Recently I realized the word "pathetic" basically just means "full of emotion" - it's the opposite of "apathetic" (pathos = emotion).  It's strange that every word that means emotional tends to just kind of move towards meaning "total loser" eventually.
