Emo?

So yeah emo.. a swear word in some circles, but what does it really mean? I see emo kids all over the place and want to beat the shit out of them, but what exactly is this emo shit other than cutting and crying and writing in a blog?

One of my friends decided to jump on the emo bandwagon. Try as I might, I haven't been able to carry on a conversation with him without wanting to smash his face into a wall for several months as a result.
