Some of the greatest albums for many of the up-and-coming DJ's and bands came out in the past year. Some old favorites, some new surprises, but what were your favorites?
5) Crystal Method - Legion of Boom
4) Chemical Brothers - Push The Button
3) The Killers - Hot Fuss
2) Fatboy Slim - Palookaville
1) Air - Talkie Walkie
A couple that didn't make my list but deserve mentioning include the new Prodigy album "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned", The Postal Service's "Give Up". Tiesto has just released a new album, but it's nothing to write home about, and it appears Jokenfold (Paul Oakenfold) may be picking up steam.
And I think the Killers are electronic enough to be put on the list, by the by. ;-)

Legion of Boom was alright.
Push The Button I haven't gotten yet.
Palookaville wasn't all that great overall.
Talkie Walkie was pretty good, I really liked Alone in Kyoto.
Prodigy's latest album is pretty damn good.

Autechre - LP5
I must have listened to this album atleast 100 times and its still awsome. i have listened to it every day on the way to the car and back for more than a month, and im still not bored of it. i normally get bored of music pretty quick, but this is a really special album.
anyway, i like Air and The Postal Service pretty much too, i havent heard most of those others. My favorite song on talkie walkie is china girl.
ae are good when they put their minds to it, but Confield was just silly. It sounds like they spent ages coming up with thousands of incredibly complex effects and filters, and then just chucked them all together with no thought whatsoever. The technical skill is obvious, but there's no soul.

Electronic music is the bulk of my musical tastes, so I like tons, across many different subgenres.
I could never compile a list of specific artists though :\
Uhh, so, I'll transplant a post from SA about what someone had to say about Autechre, from the thread "Have Autechre lost their way?".
I somewhat agree with them, but I like all their works depending on my mood.
Blatant disregard of tired and overused IDM production techniques. More interesting texture and sound design. Incredibly intricate automating compared to older material that is technically interesting but somehow falls together just right to create music that is pleasurable to the ears, especially upon repeated listenings. Much deeper than older material, only begins to unravel itself after many listens. After that, the music sounds less "cold and mechanical", your ears become accustomed to it and you just generally love it. You have a much deeper connection to it than older Autechre material; it's like an extension of yourself. I love all their material, don't get me wrong, but they keep getting better and better.
However, the most likely to be real leak of Untilted (their new album) has me a bit disappointed if it is indeed real.
Recently I've been listening to Aphex's Analord series, Jimmy Edgar, Enduser, Kettel, Venetian Snares, DJ/Rupture, Curtis Chip, and Ratatat.
draft 7.30 completely lost me. i like every other album but this just got way too experimental or something. incunabula still amazes me, i don't hold it against them for moving away from that kind of sound but IMO this remains their strongest album. is peel session 2 worth it? i liked the first one.

lol ae purists will firerape your eyesockets for claiming incunabula is their best
for sure its the easiest for normal people to listen to.... for being so old it still worked good on that pi soundtrack in 98, 'kalpol introl' into 'bike' is probably the most simplistic stream ae ever assembled (but 444 is a slick way to end an lp.. for 1993)
o and get anything john peel records, i want to break into his house and steal all his dats

i thought draft 7.30 was pretty good actually. obviously, like all their music, it sounds a little discordiant on the first listen, but you get used to it. i dont feel that i have completely gotten used to it yet, but i enjoy listening. that guy from sa in >>7 put it very eloquently.
some other good stuff

well unlike most people who like electronic music i don't go take a poll to decide what music i prefer. i don't care if incunabula is the most "listenable" of their albums, i still like it the best (while not denying that they have other albums which are amazing as well). i'm not sure what an ae purist would be, but i'm hoping it's not someone who only likes things that aren't popular, or someone who clings to belief that later albums are always better than earlier ones. it's that kind of annoying pretentiousness that makes me want to stab most people who claim to like electronic music in the face.

I´ve been really into acid house and early 90s techno, lately, so I really liked AFX´ Analord EPs.

I think Peel Session 2 is better thatn the first, so you should definitely check it out.

Timo Maas was always great. Haven't paid much attention to him lately though. The Killers are good too, but I'm not sure how electronic they are. If you're going to include them, I'll throw in Orgy and Manson too. *shrugs*

eh electronic music sucks. having said that, i like aphex. squarepusher can be cool sometimes, but i reaaaaly hate that music on the newest record that's supposed to sound like live recordings of real instruments. sounds bad.

Just hit up Beck's new track on iTunes "Gettochip Malfunction (Hell Yes) [8-bit Remix]" (I think it's an iTunes exclusive) and it brings electronic music ALLLLLL The way back to the basics, with hifi gameboy-esque sounds that work so goddamn well. Beck usually doesn't do electronic music, but this is just fantastic.

ditto, but if you're unaware, Yasume is Xela and Logreybeam, so you should check out their solo releases if you haven't.

that merck dosage release was pretty good but i like their yasume release more

Yeah, those are pretty good things akin to it, especially Kettel.
Isan is pretty cool in the "almost ambient" aspect. Sora's Re.sort album is great too.
If I see lgb on IRC, I'll ask him if they're planning anything new, but I seldom pay attention the the channel we both use.

Snacks, you should visit the slsk IDM room from time to time, there's a lot of good taste in there, and I frequent it myself. Listening to Nobukazu Takemura right now.
