What OS does /lounge/ use?

Name: !L33tUKZj5I 2012-04-06 5:19

Just wondered. Ubuntu here.
Been using linux for ten years, and ubuntu suits me fine. The shell is the same as any hipster distro, less driver headaches and anything I don't llike gets removed anyway.

I have Ubuntu on one computer and Windows 7 on the other.

you can use different shells with any given distro, you just use bash by default

there are plenty of differences between distros, such as licensing, support, package managers, repositories, etc.

some default things can be changed, i.e. shells, window managers, daemons, desktop environments, libraries, etc. but not everything can be changed

shows what you know, fucking script kiddie faggot

all you know how to do with regard to GNU/Linux is how to run aircrack and other pre-made skiddie tools with plenty of documentation on the internet

don't kid yourself, you don't know shit

I bet you don't even know regular expression or bash scripting, let alone real programming

True. I have NetBSD on one machine of mine with bash installed (I think it uses chsh by default, but it's been quite a while since I last bothered with it).

Why not OpenBSD? Are you a faggot?

Name: Anonymous 2012-04-06 15:32

Ubanto is targeted at liberal niggerlover noobs, that's why it's so popular here. It's the Obama of Linuces. But despite the fact that they are using image of dancing niggers on their cd and that they named the distro after an ancient nigger word meaning "we're going to rape your white ass", no nigger is actually involved in the development!! It's just marketing!

It's not on a machine I use everyday. It's not even connected to the Internet. I'll give it a try when I get the chance. Also, lol Theo de Raadt

I use an extensively modified form of Slackware that I call Aufklärung, inevitably abbreviated to "Aufie" (pronounced OW-fee). It was a failed experiment in getting everyone I know to wean them off of Windows.

Oh come on.  I farted about with Commodore BASIC quite a bit myself.  People would do that pre-Windows.  You turn on the computer, and the language was right there already.  I don't know what kids do like that now, because it's all clicking stuff.

Listen here, jerkface.  The Commodore PET was around long before there was any Windows.  It was like the fuckin' 1990s before we saw any Windows.

Name: Anonymous 2012-04-07 19:17

And besides, Windows is a GUI, not a language, which was the point you queen.>>45

Windows is an operating system, not a GUI or a programming language

hurrrdurr

Name: Anonymous 2012-04-07 19:42

Well now you're just helping explain what I explained to you, genous.  And the whole point of Windows was the GUI, numbnuts.

Name: 4CT !3lWjo8kf8k 2012-04-07 19:42

>>47,48 Windows 1.0 came out on November 20 1985, are you some kind SFBEtards.....

And FYI Windows 3.11 came out 1990 assholes.

and the OS on the C64 was a port of 6502 Microsoft BASIC.

Name: Anonymous 2012-04-07 19:45

So anyway, with Windows GUI with mousing about dominant, it's just not ordinary to turn on a computer and start farting around with a programming language the way it was before.  It used to be normal for everyone to try out some lines right out of the box.

Name: Anonymous 2012-04-07 19:47

>>51
Commodore machines still came about before 1985, so what.  And who cares about MS BASIC.  Normal people didn't have business machines at home -- they had the Apples, Commodores, Spectrums and so on.  Regardless, it wasn't fucking Windows obviously.

You do know that the windows front-end GI is built on DOS and M$ BASIC, right!

Name: Anonymous 2012-04-07 20:14

>>61
The whole point is that when you turn on a Windows machine, people let Windows load in and start mousing around and never realize that they could be programming.  Got it?  The older machines turned on immediately because there was no hard drive -- it was the ROM, and there on the screen it said "COMMODORE BASIC" and you even had to type in a LOAD command to run something from a floppy.
