IDs would be nice. It helps when I'm having a back and forth conversation with somebody to tell if I'm still conversing with the same person, because sometimes you have cases where your topic introduces new people.

I know under an ID system you're still anonymous and the same ID doesn't follow you from thread to thread (I believe it's based on a formula based on a combination of IP address, browser cookies, time of thread creation, and one other variable that I can't think of right now); and also when you use sage, the ID is "disabled" and says the word "heaven", so if you don't want your ID to be shown you can just use the sage function.

IDs do not give total anonymity thus defeats the purpose of trying to have an anonymous posting system. Might as well just force everyone to buy an account for $10 using a credit card and then sign in using details matching the name on the card. I mean seriously wtf? GTFO with this ID bullshit.

Second, world4ch had IDs back in 2007 and anonymity was never comprimised, nor any of its underlying characteristics altered.

What further proves my point is 4-ch.net and iichan.net have had an identical ID system for quite a long time (perhaps even since their founding?) and it has cut down on some runaway trolling (by helping to detect it in the first place).

This is completely fallacious and illogical thinking. How would exactly re-implemnting the ID system from 2007 turn into some kind of Orwellian "check-in"? I wouldn't be surprised if the ID code from 2007 was kept written in Shiichan and just simply "turned off". It didn't happen back then, and it certainly wouldn't happen now. Stop being sensationalist.

Honestly this is the only place (textboard wise) where I hear complaints from its users being adamantly against IDs of any sort. It seems like this mentality stems from /b/ and is being thoughtlessly imported here. I believe this is a good discussion and should be seriously discussed. Certainly this is a better idea of "fixing" /lounge/ and world4ch as a whole than what that pesky !MILKRIBS4k has been up to!

Also you do realise that any proxy will change your ID right? I trolled 4ch for while by doing just that and it worked flawlessly. It’s pointless to have IDs because they are so easy to change.

The only way to truly stop this “trolling” you talk about is to have mods here 24/7 checking to see that every post someone makes is up to your high standards. And that’s just not going to happen, ok.
