Killing for kicks – youths confess to 21 murders
In Ukraine, three young men who went on a month-long killing spree have been charged with murdering 21 people. The violent attacks plunged the eastern city of Dnepropetrovsk into a vortex of fear in the summer of 2007. The three, who are now 20 years old, were teenagers at the time they allegedly battered their victims with hammers and pipes.
Rumours of a maniac killing both young and old paralysed Dnepropetrovsk, one of the largest cities in Ukraine. Police, however, linked the reign of terror to a group of teenagers.
They’re not revealing how they caught them but, with mobile phone footage of some of the murders, officers have little doubt of the identity of the criminals.
“We think they were doing it as a hobby, to have a collection of memories when they get old,” said Detective Bogdan Vlasenko.
The former classmates have been behind bars for almost a year now and it’s believed they've pleaded guilty to all the murders.
They are thought to have used iron pipes and hammers on their victims. Mobile phone footage also suggests they practised on cats first.
They all come from prosperous families and have allegedly admitted they committed the crimes just for fun.
Detectives say they the killers weren’t targeting anyone in particular. They just picked up people who looked like they wouldn’t fight back.
“You see, no one would fear for their life when these boys were offering them a ride,” said Ivan Stypak, Chief Police Officer of the Dnepropetrovsk region.
However, the parents of the suspects refuse to believe their children could be killers. They insist their children were forced to confess their guilt.

The suspects' cell phones and personal computers contained multiple video recordings of the murders taking place. One full video was leaked to the Internet, showing the murder of 48-year-old Sergei Yatzenko. He is seen laying on his back in a wooded area, and is struck repeatedly in the face with a hammer held inside a plastic bag. One of the attackers pokes out Yatzenko's eyes with a screwdriver, and stabs him with the screwdriver elsewhere. Yatzenko is then struck with the hammer in order to ensure that he is dead. The attack lasts over four minutes, during which the victim lapses in and out of consciousness. The murderers walk back to their car, showing that the crime took place only a few feet away from the side of a road, next to their parked car. They discuss the murder calmly, expressing mild amazement that the victim was still breathing after a screwdriver was plunged into his exposed brain. The suspects then wash their hands and the hammer in a puddle and with a water bottle, and begin to laugh. Only two suspects appear to be present in the video, with one always behind the camera.[45]
The suspects were also found in possession of multiple photographs showing them attending funerals of the victims. They can be seen smiling and "flipping off" the coffins and gravestones. Evidence of animal abuse was also shown in court, with the suspects posing alongside mutilated animal corpses.[

On one hand, you have a man being tortured before it's even verified if he deserved it or not, and on the other, you're doing it to someone who deserves it. Not true. Why do I need a cosmic authority? All we need to use is common sense. Does it feel good to be punched in the face? No, it doesn't. So, we can safely say that (Though subjective, it's the best logical route of understand "bad" and "good") someone punching someone in the face when that person does not deserve it is "wrong". That person has done "bad", so why not be punished for it, and if so, why not be punished with something that is as severe as what they're being punished for?
