Long before humans ever existed, crocodiles had no predators, and food was quite easy to get for them, so they might have gotten soft, as humans have in recent years, but instead the chose a different path, to kill each other constantly so only the best of the best would survive.
Many animals use a smaller scale version of this, such as males fighting each other for right to mate with a specified female.
A 7 year old bear or even a 5 year old chimpanzee will always be able to fuck you over with minimum effort.
Our hormone, in this situation, tell us to get the fuck away (and possibly come up with a plan of attack), how are they not helping us? Oh, and tools can fuck over just about anything.
See, no matter how strong you get.
I've seen a man chop through more than 10 blocks of cement, a prime human fighting example could take a below average chimp, and possibly a bear if he used a weapon he was trained in, I believe you are thinking of old men and women that have been torn apart by chimps and hikers that didn't even attempt to fight bears that were coming after them, neither of which is hardly a good example of any sort of inter-species combat, but also irrelevant because chimpanzees and humans don't occupy the same areas(in fact that's why humans came to be, because of different terrain) and bears were rare encounters long ago, and have just recent become more common, most likely because of overpopulation of humans.
without a motive
It's not even
possible for any living thing to do anything without a motive, when the fuck did I say that?
The motive(in this case) is evolution, without competition we all die.
