The current situation
AT is down because of repeated DDoS attacks on a really grand scale. It has become apparent that these attacks aren't gonna stop, and that something needs to be done.
After seriously researching this for months, I have come to the conclusion that there is basically no ISP that will accept AT with these attacks. However, there are a few services out there that provide dedicated DDoS protection. Sadly, these are expensive. For example, http://dragonara.net/ddos-protection.html wants $499 USD/month to wash the traffic. This would mean the end of all our downtime problems. However, I really cannot afford this. I need your help.
If somebody out there is willing to donate 500 bucks a month for this, AT can live on. If you won't donate this time, I don't see what else I can do.

I hope it dies; and soon. I'm new to much of this(4mos or so) and after seeing all the spam here, I spent a couple of weeks over there playing. It was pretty low volume and overwhelmingly pedo, but there were a few interesting posts so I started to work it. As always, and especially after seeing all the pedos, I researched what I could. This amounted, principally, to its entry in the ED, so along I go creating posts and replies that get higher than average hits/replies and trying to be a positive influence; lending little credence to the ED article.
The site attempts to present an air of intellectualism, so when someone posted a request to differentiate the words motive and motif, I replied that they should go to dictionary dot com. Sysop replied to me, informing me that I was being a "little troll" Whatever. It's his ball, and I wanted to play so I accepted the criticism and was ready to move on, but since he contacted me I thought I'd ask for a little more background, citing the ED article as the only information I could find. I wish I kept the ensuing correspondence. He absolutely flipped out. As much as I tried to convince him of my honorable intentions he persisted in accusing me of being a troll and suspiciously avoided and never refuted any of the ED accusations. Further, now having had the opportunity to examine his writing style I had a pretty good model for spotting his stuff submitted anonymously in other threads and became convinced that he is, in fact, not only emotionally disturbed, but a pedophile as well.
I was attracted to what I perceived as a dedication to freedom of speech, but in this instance it led me into a den of freaks, led by a freak. I wished him luck and farewell, and fucked off, because it's also clear that he's a malevolent little freak with some computing skills. Dangerous combo, but in the end he'll get what he deserves.
