What are some good ways to get a six pack of abs (not beer) fast?

Do crunches for all the muscle groups in your torso. If possible, weigh yourself down by doing them on an upwards slant. You should by a bowflex machine or something, it'll give you a place to work out if you don't have one. It'll work and not have some cheesy infomercial with fabricated-as-far-as-you-know clinically proven results.

yeah I want abs aswell but I can only get it on one side cuz I had an operation and it seems like it sliced the muscle group or something

Yeah, bowflex is actually pretty decent. give it a try if you can find one in a gym.
yeah jogging/running works good. pushups/pullups will also give you better abs as well as bigger back/chest muscles. crunches are good too. i remember also this one exercice where you have to lay on your elbows:
o______
_/ [x] <- chair or bed or something.
just stay in that position for as long as you can. will train your abs + lower back muscles.
also the best way to have visible abs/six pack is to lose weight. you can have good abs but if there's a layer of fat covering them, nobody will ever see them.

What are crunches?

Get your bodyfat under 10%. If you still have no abs, start to develop some muscules. Growing muscule while you are fat is often futile, as you will grow muscule, but also put on some fat and the more fat you already have the more fat you will put on. It is possible to gain muscule and lose fat at the same time, but it's very difficult, there is a very thin line to walk on and most people fail to do so.
running 10 miles every day is indeed a good idea.
if you really wanna lose fat, you should go running in the morning before you eat anything. just drink some water and eat a little bit of chocolate, or some sugar then go running. your body will use the fat reserves in your body when its gonna need energy instead of using the energy from your lunch/dinner, etc.

oh and don't go running 10 miles without eating anything before if you're not used to running a lot yet. cuz you'll just die.

How much of a gut do you if? If you don't have a gut at all or a relatively small amount of fat covering your abdomanal region, then it will be easier. Sit ups and crunches daily will increase the muscules, and doing aerobics (walking/jogging/running, swimming, jump rope) will help you to burn fat around that area.

i don't have a gut, but there is some fat obscuring the muscles. maybe 1/2 or 2/3 of an inch of fat? do i have to be a gym nazi to get any results or is moderate exercise enough?

Regular exercize is more than enough to achieve something as easy as abs. The dreadfull is, as usual, that most people DO have abs, but they are obscured by layers of fat. So lose that goddamn fat and do crunches daily

Jogging helps? I'm not saying it doesn't, but how? Doesn't that help your legs?

I've found swimming around 1.5km per day to be really good. Dunno how much that is in miles though. See if you can do some good lengths in your local pool. It's good for me cos I'm currently taking drugs which prevent me from exercising to strenuously. (Lifting weights, crunches etc)

It helps because you burn fat, and by burning fat, your already existing muscles will become visible.
>>12,28 AFAIK crunches are the same as sit ups, except you put your knees in the air. Attempt to touch your knees with your elbow. Just go somewhere on WEB 2.0 and get a workout guide to find out what crunches are. There are a ton of ab excercises so the term is not so odd.

Here's what I used to do:
-300 crunches before every meal. It's easy if you break it into sets of 50 or so. Put a weight on your chest if you like.
-Drink nothing but water. All other fluids like milk, soda, and alcohol are unecessary and will only provide you with unwanted calories.
-Eat reasonably healthy meals. No McDonalds, no deep fried cheese sticks wrapped in bacon, no fried foods period.
-Remember that it's okay to be hungry and that being hungry means you're burning calories.
Doing this I lost roughly 30 pounds and now I have abs that will stop bullets.

In a sense I think you're right. I lost some weight and for a while I was pretty thin and it is easier to notice them when you're not at a healthy weight. Not eating is terrible though. I couldn't stomach more than one meal a day and it was hell.

starving yourself is bad but it helps to have no body fat because that's what is in the way of a sinewy torso.
but isn't the amount of body fat dictated by genes and such? the way it seems is that you either have them already or need to push yourself to ridiculous unhealthy limits
