JET Program

Name: Anonymous 2008-01-18 0:00

Just wondering if 4chan has anyone who was, is, or is hoping to join the JET Program.

Failing that, is anyone employed as a teacher of English as a secondary language? Are you in a predominantly English-speaking country, or not?

I want to know what experiences people have with teaching English as a secondary language. I want to know what are the hardest parts, the most rewarding parts, the surprising parts... What advice or cautionary tales people might have.

More than anything, though, I want to know if there are any other 4channers waiting to hear back on whether they have an interview with the JET Program.

tl;dr: is it can be seriose discussion tiem nao pls

doing a similar thing called TESOL because i failed to get into university.

Go to China. They will pay for the flights if you stay long enough

Being ESL teacher: it sucks but you get money for very easy work.

JET Program pays for the flights as well, and is in a country I'm actually interested in living in for a year or more.

Although you'd have to suffer the stigma of being a worthless weeaboo.

I've been a weeaboo for years, and have come to terms with my worthlessness. At least this way I'd be getting paid 30k a year to be a weeaboo.

hey (im the 2nd guy) id have gone to japan too, but a) it doesn't pay as well unless you have other degrees to back it up, and b) at least in china the people are nicer

not too much wrong with being a weeaboo, unless your one of thoses totally obsessed faggots who thinks NARUTO AND DIRU PWN ^____^

Naw, I haven't watched any anime in probably over 2 years, and I actually have no idea who/what Diru is. I'm interested in Japan for its culture, not because OMG SON GOKU COULD BEAT UP SUPERMAN

well put.
Do the JET program, it pays wll and has fringe benefits. also, some of the girls ...are not too shy to ask for "private tutorials"

Yeah, I hear that's a big reason why a lot of people join. Personally, I actually want to teach English as a career, so I'm far more in it for the experience than anything.

That said, I'm definitely looking forward to living in a culture that doesn't treat sex like it's something you should feel guilty about.

haha yeah... such a win country at times

If teaching English is what you want to do this is a good step, but in Japan, you will need a University degree, to be anything more than a tutor.

In Australia we have a similar course (TESOL) but its world wide rather then just Japan. Is it Japan you are interested in only?

I'd like to visit most of the countries of the world, and maybe teach in a handful of them, but Japan is the only one that sticks out currently as a country I almost feel a need to live in, learn the language, learn the culture. It's hard to explain, but I feel like the Japanese culture is a better 'match' for my personal feelings and beliefs than America ever has been.

I wouldn't turn down a job to teach elsewhere, but no other countries interest me half as much.

yeah i know how you feel about Japan being the only appealing country. (btw prepare to never be paid on time)
traveling and teaching English would be a good way to live for a while. The problem is that in most western Eurpoean countries, south Korea, japan, and a few arab countries you need university degrees.

University degree ain't a problem, as I'm in my final semester towards an English degree. Funny thing is that the JET Program wouldn't even require a degree if the work visa didn't require it.

I have a similar question to the OP's, regarding teaching English to Spanish speakers in the US (or less likely for me, teaching English in a Spanish-speaking country). Any experiences/tips/etc.?

teach in Spain. More money

I'm honestly surprised there aren't more 4channers going for the JET Program.

Then I realize that probably over half of the 4chan population is 20 or younger... and that a good portion of 4chan is underage b&.

You have seen the light.

But you failed to realise that out of the over20s 4channers, a good chunk of them are (quite simply) too stupid to get a degree
