Thorn

Since the guy who was making Thorn decided to scrap it for whatever reasons, does anyone have the latest version of it for download? Thanks in advance.

Use Trevorchan.

Trevorchan is too shitty

Why do you say so? I have added a lot of improvements and fixed bugs. Also, it's performance now definitely beats wakaba and other imageboard scripts. Maybe you should take a look at the source instead of being another ignorant fag from 4chan/prog/?

Trevorchan is so-so. The code still reeks of 12 year old programmer and unelegant hack and the database structure is rather gay ( lol one table per board ). But it seems to work ok now and has all the features you need.

Thorn on the other hand has always sucked. Good riddance.

Not many alternatives available anyway apart from Wakaba, that one software written in Ruby on Rails where everybody can create his own board by use of tags, and whatever they run over at Krautchan. Not sure if the latter two are even available for download.

TL;DR use Trevorchan, you won't care about the internals anyway.

(I lol'd)

I don't like Trevorchan mostly because:
1. It doesn't Gazou or Futaba in the footer, like it should.
2. It comes with a thread watcher (yeah it can be enabled in the config.php) - why have one in the first place, when that's what firefox addon programmers are for.
3. Its structure is such so that if I wanted to hack it, I'd have to read every file, whereas on wakaba/kareha/futallaby, I can just look at basically less than a few files (futallaby is one file) and figure out what I need to change and do it.
4. With futallaby, I can make sure that all my mods are fine by just running imgboard.php on the individual boards, I don't want to have to login to some admin panel with homo gifs running around and rebuild all the boards, just because if I change one board, I change them all (as per the script).
5. It comes with a favicon that looks lame, and half of the people that use the script don't know how to rm favicon.ico.
6. It uses OO. Why use OO on something like this when it is way easier to just not.

Those are just simple reasons that someone can get over, the biggest problem that I have with it, however, is the fact that it gives you, essentially, a 4chan in a box (or a .zip/.tar.gz). It hinders exploration and creativity among the *chan community, which is lame to begin with, but by giving them everything they ask for, and don't need, it only furthers that fact.

Uh, what?

Actually, the 4chan Firefox extension is pretty fucking retarded. Not only is it limited to one browser, but it also only does stuff that can be done with regular JavaScript, as Trevorchan shows.

3. Its structure is such so that if I wanted to hack it, I'd have to read every file, whereas on wakaba/kareha/futallaby, I can just look at basically less than a few files
It's called structure. And it's a good thing. Although Trevorchan is still a really bad example of this. But Wakaba/Futallaby are pretty much the worst.

Whatever.

Including you, lol.

6. It uses OO. Why use OO on something like this when it is way easier to just not.
See 3.

Not like the fact that Wakaba gives you pretty much nothing has ever lead to original chan sites, though. People have always copied 4chan layout and hardly anybody "explored" much.

Uh, what?
I meant "credit." I was thinking about a half a step ahead and forget that. My bad there lol. (i need 2 lern 2 tipe).

>Actually, the 4chan Firefox extension is pretty fucking retarded. Not only is it limited to one browser, but it also only does stuff that can be done with regular JavaScript, as Trevorchan shows.

Firefox extensions are written in JavaScript, I just find it a waste if I don't want to have it on there in the first place.

>It's called structure. And it's a good thing. Although Trevorchan is still a really bad example of this. But Wakaba/Futallaby are pretty much the worst.

I know what structure is, and I enlist it when I program, I was implying that Trevorchan was the worst at structure, so we agree there.

>Whatever.
Whatever.

>Including you, lol.
Rite lol.

>See 3.
That point is strictly opinion based, some people like using OO when they program, I personally don't like to enlist it unless I'm programming something massive in Java (I never program anything huge in Python or C++, so I never use it there). Personally, I've always found it somewhat of a hassle to program something using Objects in PHP, some people learned only using Objects.

Yeah, but that aside, it would still be nice to not just handed everything right to the user so that it might force them to think just a little bit.

(I hope it still shows that I'm the same ID, though shiichan should. Either way, if it doesn't, I'm >>7 ).

Trevorchan has performance and compatibility issues that hindered deployment on my company's intranet. We ended up installing an Exchange cluster and used Public Folders in Outlook instead.

Trevorchan beats other scripts? Gyahahaha.

So, like, uh... you're writing to static HTML now, right? And you're not raping the DB anymore, right? And, uh... what percentage of hits do you think result in rebuilding the pages?

So what's the difference? 2%? 1%?

Given your lack of cluefulness, I have serious doubts about the correctness of the software. Sorry to be a callous dick, but don't make stupid claims.

Trevor is a dick, except for PyIB which isn't too bad.

Don't change these.
