Halo doesn't suck. It is just, I don't know, generic. It's as bland as any game can get. It's like any other FPS, except the story isn't interesting, the enemies are more spastic than any other series, and you ride around in vehicles.
I think Halo was a bit overrated as well.It wasn't as good as eveyone thought,

The only thing that saves halo is online? ummm yeah lol, whats the point of playing any shooter if it doesnt have good online play? CS = no story, all Quake titles = bad story, all Unreal titles = same story as Quake with minor differences, Tribes = woulsnt know only played online, Battlefield = single player is online match with lame AI. So far the only exception I can think of is Half-Life, but then, I know people would argue that even that was lame.
I'm not saying these games are bad, I have most of them especially the Battlefields, I'm saying the fact that Halos story isnt great is irrelevant, all FPS' have lame single player stories, period. Without online, theres no point to an FPS.

honestly, everyone has a point here, FPS games for PC are on the edge of total fail, and living. Enemy territory was supposed to be good from what i hear, gonna get the open beta this weekend. However, i was expecting ALOT of asowmness from FPS on the wii, but no, they have to screw that up too, gaming companies need to make games based on gameplay, not just graphics, cause its not just FPS that are on the line of fail.

What is killing halo esp 3 for me is this overhyped marketing bullshit
"Game fuel"
A bunch of tv channels having total halo days, including ones unrelated like comedy central.
Release parties with zomg celebreties who would never play this shit and are paid to say its the shit. Shown on said channels.
Sites claming this is the game of the decade.
Stupid cars painted like halo
Every store and your mother never shutting up about halo.
On top of that people that prefer nonconsole controls get shitted on when they release the PC versions over a year after the console one comes out. If you have people wait for the other version it should be on the same caliber as the original game you assholes.

Halo only got so much fanboy goo all over it because console retards had never seen things like 'first person shooters' or 'attempt at plot' before, and creamed themselves with glee. The only interesting thing in the original was the use of vehicles; everything else was old hat and so it never really impressed the PC gamer crowd when it came out on the platform, or even when they saw its stuff in the console release. And while they get the games later, they typically get rewarded with a graphics boost (Halo 1 and 2 for PC run at HD resolution, as do all PC games due to not using a shitty tv for output. Also better texture drawing) and a few extra levels/guns/stuff. Sides, any half competent PC user was playing Halo 2 on an XBox emulator as soon as it came out, and being seriously let down by the shitty ending.

Death to you! The only people who think Halo sucks are people who suck at it. Stop shitting on the parade!
I agree that Halo generally gets more praise than it deserves in the media but personally I think the game is still above average quality. I'm a console and PC gamer, but I remember when Halo was released on the Xbox and I played it for the first time, I was just hooked.
I think the Halo franchise is doing very well, however it's not the best FPS and although the 'Haloverse' is pretty addictive, I don't think Bungie does enough in the games to show people their take on the universe. Anyway long story short; I think Half-Life is a lot better to be honest.

I never got why Halo got so much publicity and was held in such high standards. Sure, the storyline was above average for a shooter, but gameplay-wise it had nothing that hadn't been done on the PC years before. Same with Halo 2. Even the multiplayer didn't offer anything new to a PC veteran and you had to pay if you wanted to play.

As usual, MS is probably losing more money marketing this game than they'll gain selling it (and all related accessories). Look at the XBOX and XBOX360. If it were any other company their XBOX division would've been terminated long ago.
They'll make alot of money, sadly. In the tri-state area of the states, the streets were littered with Halofags waiting till midnight to either get the game or play it at the local net cafes, and there are alot of those around here. It's all weeaboo and wanabe-asians and it gets annoying quite quickly. But, yeah. Due to these hyped up losers and the cost to play it over a network, MS will at the very least get back what they spent on advertising.
The worse thing of this, there was a Halo/Goldeneye special on TV, on the only channel in my area with decent stuff on TV no less.

I prefered the Turok trilogy over the Halo trilogy. Seriously, the only thing Halo did different was have you throw grenades and riding vehicles all over the place in multiplayer. Yeah, sure, Halo looked better. That was it. I'll admit to not playing the third one, but considering the story of the first two, it sounds alot less interesting than Turok's story.
Halo only has graphics over Turok. Nothing else.
I would want any Halo player who loved the third one to say something that makes Halo different from all others. Because as things stand, Halo is only overhyped and generic with the added use of vehicles and a lacking depth in multiplayer.

Layout the story then and just code hide any spoilers. I am only familiar with Halo 1's story and from what people described of Halo 2's story (only checked the multiplayer at a friends house) it sounded blah. I mean, at the time I thought the only thing that people went big over the game was the multiplayer, so I assumed single player was only what was described.
I want to know how big the story is. Because as far as depth in FPS stories go, I only considered the Turok and 007 series to have worthwhile single player stories.

Here's a rundown of what I know about the Halo universe:
* The Forerunners are a technologically advanced non-human civilization. They live life and create technology and do whatever.
* A parasite of some sort enters the Halo galaxy and start to spread. They are referred to as the flood because of the nature of their infection rate.
* The Forerunners build a collection of Halo structures for the purpose of studying the parasite and as containment for the spread of the parasite when it gets out of control. Activating the Halo structures would contain the growth of the parasite by depriving them of their food source - that is "killing all sentient life" within the galaxy.
* The forerunners decide that the parasite's spread was beyond their control and so implemented protocols to contain the spread. The protocol was basically to move somewhere else (the great journey) and activate the Halo structures (the purification). All sentient life within the Galaxy die by the Halos. The parasite is deprived of their food source and their method of reproduction.
* The descendants of the Forerunners live on. The Forerunners promise salvation from the parasite to their descendants through the containment protocols. The ancestors call themselves 'the Covenant' after the Forerunner's promises.
* The Covenant somehow causes the parasite to spread. The Covenant start the great journey but need to find the Halos.
* Humans develop feasible interstellar travel and colonize the galaxy. The humans start the SPARTAN project to help deal with any military conflict. Humans and the Covenant discover each other. The Covenant war with the humans (I don't know why). The Covenant kick human butt.
* Humans and the Covenant discover the first Halo (Installation 04). The Halo 1 story begins here.
That's basically the story of the Halo universe up to Halo 1. I've left out tons of trivial detail. The Halo wikia site is probably the best non-official Halo resource we have. You can find tons of Halo trivia there http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page .
All that detail makes up for a plausibly interesting story. If you view Halo shallowly though, Halo is yet another shooter with aliens and zombie-like parasites futuristic weapons. This is why I say the difference between Halo and other shooters is the story.

Not really, you bubbleheaded retard. Try actually reading the thread or getting off that moronic fadboyistic high horse of yours. Halo is the next pokemon, many people liked it, now there are many people hating on it. Your only supporting the hate with your comment.

Glad to see a true fanboy who can give answers. Indeed, the combined concept of the old "space parasites" idea and the old "Zombie parasite" idea works well. Plus, it allows to gives high level of understanding with the story. However, it really isn't all that unique. Not trying to be too critical, but I have actually seen this formula used once in a black and white scifi horror film. Good movie imo, despite the obviously craptastic costume. Also, there was more of a brain control thing than a zombie thing.
However, it further supports my opinion of the Covenant's back story. The possibility of them fighting dirty with germ warfare and being an alien race that is offensive towards humans
because they want to be the dominant force. It is all said there. It's really not that original, just alot of old, nearly forgotten material.
I'll read the wiki further to see if I am wrong in anyway. I want to see if there is something ultra original with the story or if alot of what is said from one and two is misleading. After all, another possibility could be that the covenant actually attacked the humans because the humans accidentally, or purposely in a stupid way, released long dormant Flood cells. The latter story is possible when thinking about that one ending on Halo 2.
Name:
Anonymous2007-09-28 0:57 ID:jw7AkuYl
Well, read through quite a bit on the Flood. I was both right and wrong in my assumptions. Though, it is kind of making the game look less like following the story right. I mean, If the Covenant, Humans, and the Flood really are having a three way fight, then it makes no sense for the Covenant to be so focused on fighting the Humans, despite the presence of the Flood. And the suits the Covenant wear don't seem to be well enough to protect against the Flood, if the Flood can physically infect. Then again, perhaps I should read further into what happened in the gas mines to get the answer.
This is the fun part of determining if a game's single player is good. The disection of everything that the hype of a popular one is built on.
So far, the story seems far less interesting than even the mildly interested people I talked to have mentioned. I'll be back much later, since it looks like there is alot to read.

So the story elements are unoriginal. It does well enough as a foundation as a plausible futuristic alien shooter. Halo as a whole may not be unique or particularly outstanding, it does manage to convey an adequately interesting enough experience if you don't just treat it as yet another shooter. That is what I like about the game; if not for the detail in the back story, it truly does become just another shooter.

Halo is a good game. I'm not an huge Halo fanboy, in fact I only own Halo: Combat Evolved for PC. I just think the game is fun, although bungie needs to get their shit together with the PC ports. Even with its technical downfalls, Halo managed to create both excellent single-player and multi-player game modes, which is quite rare in today's market. The campaign mode had a simple enough story to follow, even if the levels got a little repetetive, and the ending is one of the best I've yet seen - it resolves the first game, but sets the game up perfectly for a sequel.

This is the guy who is deconstructing and analyzing Halo. I will wait till I play the game in all modes so I can complete my analyses. I still think it is generic, but whatever. Who knows, I may find that I am wrong. However, even seeing others play it, I felt less and less interested in it.
I won't be back for a while. So don't be shocked if I come out of know where to make a thorough review, unbiased and unaffected by the fad. I always see both the good and bad in a game, which is why a description from me can be trusted.

Halo is only the shit cause it had the best multiplayer action to ever come out on console.
Halo is above average, I starting playing in 2001 and I've watched the series improve over the years, and it has certainly put itself ahead of most fps games. With forge and saved films, it's atleast worth the price of admision, if you don't want to play, don't. I liek it moar den mudkipz.
then you my friend have no place in an argumentative halo thread. having said that you have hated it since announcement and having not played it because of this, no one wants to hear what you have to say as you have no knowledge what so ever on the subject, you dont know how it plays, you dont know how it works all your probably know is that its an fps by bungie. in short. your a fucking moronic individual that would rather play on reviews and previews than give a fairly acceptable fps a chance. gtfo newfag.
