reply#5 on joystiq is right, if 360 start spilling out the next-gen FF's, who'd buy a PS3 just for MGS series, not to mention how Armored Core looked better on 360 than PS3 (http://playstation3.joystiq.com/entry/1234000467068016/)
why talk about PS4 at all, is SONY already admitting PS3 being inferior to X360. yes, i know PS3 is much stronger than X360 by the numbers, but the AC comparison article suggets that few developers have the guts to turn PS3's potential into reality.
Even so, if you consider two consoles having same potential, with one being half ass easier to program on, which would you choose as a progammer.
Now i'm freaki'n confused, should i get X360 now? PS3 later? or hey PS4 just a little more later, wtf

Get 'em all if you've got the money
My primary gaming system is my computer, so I can play games with graphics just as good as the Xbox360. If the graphics on the PS3 are better than my PC at release time, then I may consider buying it.
It's all about your preference.

You know, with all those features Kutaragi & friends want to put on videogames they'd have to take several years to research, plan and implement ideas based on current/tomorrow's technology. And it's not like developing cutting-edge technology is cheap. Still, I'd buy a PS3 just for MGS series (okay, Gran Turismo as well), but with Kojima's statement, I'll consider an X360 (and no, I don't give a shit about Halo).
And if you are willing to wait for PS4, just keep in mind that Kutaragi himself told it shouldn't hit the shelves until 2010++
Agreed. It's all about preference. Though I think that people interested in Japanese games may have more advantage buying videogame consoles, and people more inclined to western games should do fine with PCs, since the best western games are
born on PCs anyway (then usually ported to consoles).

What a stupid concept. Kutaragi was just saying what's going to happen: The PS3 is going to get outdated, the market is goign to get stale, and they're going to create a PS4. "Within the Decade" isnt such a hard assumption considering that consoles stereotypically live 4-5 years, and it's 2005.
Now, I don't think the PS3 is inferior to the XBOX 360. Constantly, developers are going to complain about development environments. I mean, they're GOING to because they want everything handed to them on a silver platter. But, from what I've seen and played of the 360, I think the PS3 could have the 360 beaten if on nothing but sheer game quality.
To put my point simply, the 360 sucks. And it will probably continue to do so. About 75% of all the games for 360 launch are just re-made lower gen games, and even the newest games arent exactly revolutionary. The games are horribly antialiased, and, as I put it to a friend of mine, "It's the XBOX with bump mapping".
Now, this is not to say that the PS3 is immune from sucking or the 360 is dead. A 180 degree turn around in the market could very well happen. And, as it stands, the PS3 and Revolution are in a poor situation.
However, the gross assumption that the 360 will trump the PS3 because of development environment is purely bullshit. First of all, the development kit isn't even completely out yet. Yes, some developers have their hands on it, but there may very well be a redesign of it, considering they don't even have a solid controller structure down.
Secondly, it's pretty obvious that developers will learn to use it. I mean, let's face it- if there are even a small handful of developers working on the PS3, then it will have a life regardless of how hard it is. This "Open Internet" system or whatever is a direct signal from Sony that they plan to make it available to the common programmer, so there may be a turn-around.
But then again, these kinds of threads are stupid. Wait till they're all out for like a year.

im not going to buy the 360.
i want japanese rpgs....
Yeah, because since Hironobu Sakaguchi is producing Blue Dragon for Micro$oft, he's no longer japanese, amirite?
Come on, guys. The XBOX 360 is having mediocre launch titles, fact (rushed job, what could you expect?), but most people just bash XBOX/XBOX 360 only based on "ZOMG BILL GATES SUX MICROSOFT FOR TEH FAIL!!!11".

i doubt that there will ever be an atelier on xbox.
you DO know that without HI-DEF none of you could tell a major differene right?
and fact is that developers have UBER more time to start development on PS3 launch titles. just that facts alone gives them a edge to next gen markets.

You know even though the Playstation console is HIGHLY successful I ALMOST thought that they would just stop after PS3. But to my surprise look what I found here. Thanks for this information.

Japs know that they are losing the grip on gaming trends. I wouldn't be suprised if the PS3 never launches and they skip right to PS4 to recoop their losses.
If anything, Microshaft would probably end up buying Sony anyways...

The PlayStation 4 will utilize a cell based architecture consisting of millions of tiny PS2s. This will be an integral part of every home theater in the world, making every piece of electronics equipment obsolete.
>>13
It's funny that you bring this up...guess what all three new systems are _going_ to be for devs. The devs didn't bother to learn the architecture and made shitty games. GT4 is probably about 80% or what the unit is capable of. The same thing was seen on the PSX, where only the later games started looking really good. Mr. 4 is right about devs wanting shit on a silver platter, which to me defys the very reason they exist. Regardless of what they program for, they need to learn to thread programs independently and to time threads so that things don't have to wait in memory for others to complete (PS2 had a similar problem because it was designed for heavy data throughput. Of course, devs should have at least tried to sub in vliw where possible to take advantage of the fast bus and extra processing power from VU0 and VU1) The point? Until they relearn everything they ever knew about writing code, _all_ the games will be shitty. The difference between coding for a broadband processor and a three core PPC isn't all that great because they're, at the top level, practically the same architecture.

All of these consoles pushed out by these conglomerates will not stand since they refuse innovation since it's too much of a risk.
Nintendo however has less to lose and more to gain, therefore they're gunna be succesful.
If the big N's games prove to be worthwhile for the revo, then not a damned soul will say : " THAT FUCKING THING SUCKS! "

with all due respect ps2 is still going stronger then xbox 360 ever will, they could hold back development and re make the machine

By that (rather idiotic) logic, any bum who robs a bank will be succesful because he has nothing to lose and much to gain.

This is just my oppinion........
How can sony make a ps4, or even begin to think of one (this is from a corprate standpoint) when they dont even know how the PS3 is going to sell.
Now with aht said, Nintendo is going down the drain. Yes, they do have a chance at redemption if they come out with some big name, big hit, Something , that isnt isn't 10 years old, will enjoy playing. I'll admit they have their EA Sports games, but in reality that isn't enough to keep them going. What happen to their FF (Final Fantasy) rights?
I can rember when that game, FF1 (ONE!!) was relised one the ORIGNAL game boy. At that time, I belive, They were the only ones with rights to that game. My question is, what happend?!
Is is as if Nintendo just didnt't care any more.
Any way the new 360 can't be judged just on its design. If you want to get down to it, is Sony (the makers of Plastion, also refered to as PS System,) going to alow their buyers to have FREE (yes i said free) internet acess just by buying the game? Grant it, it is only dial up acess, and you would still have to pay the 50$ a mounth for the Cable/DSL, but still you can get free acess to their online games. That fact alone can out do and preformence upgrades that sony decides to put into their PS3. To Sony's benifit they will, more then lickly because it was done with the previous PS2 system, allow their eariler games to be played on this system aswell.
The point that I'm trying to make is this: The 360 will be released servrel mounths B4 the PS3 and will also h ave the options i said above. With that in mind Sony CAN offer the free acess, weather they do or not is a different story, but if they don't, 360 will more then likly out sell the PS3, even on its relse date.
In my oppinion the only this Nintendo and Sony (Playstation) have going for them are the titles that they can relse. If Microsft's 360 can have the same, or equivalent, of those titles relesed they can then shut down any other gaming system that is on the market right now.
I remind you that this is just my oppinion and based on facts that i have learnd i have drawn this conclusion. You dont have to agree but if you dis agree PLEASE back it up with logical resoning. I will not respond to stupid coments such as, "You are wrong because i like Plastion".
-Thanks to all the people who raise a GOOD debate on my post.
-Thanks to all those who coment on my post period!

Mayb It wasn't FF.... I do rember playing something like FF or Zelda for the orgnal Game Boy. At the time is was a major hit.
SONY BOUGHT all the fucking rights with their money from their other departments (TV's, Walkmen etc.) They invested shitloads in the original Playstation and many developers went to them because they were using CD's (Which they helped create incidentally). The loading times were shite but you could fit more stuff on them so the dev's went all schoolgirl for Sony. Plus Sony came really out of nowhere and released their console in the middle of the traditional period of calm between the then console giants SEGA and Nintendo. Sony's also had the advantage that they were 'chippable' so people could buy the console and play blootleg games. Which is going to make any console popular.
Sony don't innovate any more because they don't need to. Everyone bums Sony now so all they need do is steal ideas from others (Hard Drive from Microsoft, Control Stick from Nintendo) and stick them on their console. And the Sony drone consumers just lap it up 'Because it's SONY! ZOMG C001 l33tz!'
Makes me sick. Revolution will pwn all.

Just like the 64DD and Gamecube.

Gamecube sold 52 million.
Lol... check the facts, that aint bad at all.
64DD was cancelled in US and basically a "shortbased shipped" quantity in Japan because they knew it would sell there, and it did.
You should have named something like "Virtual-Boy"
Playstation pretty much did just like what EA Sports did when they made Madden.
Stole everything from their competitors and put it on their product and did more advertising with "Celebrities getting free systems when their already rich and can afford 10 playstations for their KIDS alone."
(Celebrities that get free systems from "this company" always say "OH THIS SYSTEM IS BETTER, or THIS GAME IS BETTER".)
Playstation stole "Rumble feature -- Analog Technology --- Hard Drive, and industry secrets from Nintendo"
(Super Nintendo was going to release an add on called "The Nintendo Playstation") and if you didn't know
Nintendo had a Sony Sound chip in their system, switched to another company, and sony got mad and made PS and took the ideas they had going for the "CD based Nintendo Playstation" and made their own system.
Nintendo tried to be "Different and stay with cartridges and people got pissed about paying "2 more dollers for a video game" saying "CARTRIDGES ARE MORE EXPENSIVE" and that was the fall of Nintendo.
Even if they are better, people still say it sucks.
Lets see if PS3 tries to still the Revolution's Controller.
(Of course they'll try)

Don't forget the wireless controllers they've stolen from nintendo now too. Oh and the lovely optical disc tech they stole for the PsP. Same discs just slightly smaller.
I hope you know that the ps2 did have suport for a hdd aswell..
so there is no stealing there... and the ps2 still have all the
third party dev's like Datel. An IM program for the ps2 anyone?..

If you people are going to be like this then every god damn thing in history is stolen.
It's pointless to scream and fight over something stupid like omg someone's thing looks like another thing or was base don another thing.. STOLENZ.
Gamecube didnt sell 53 million, more like 10-20 million.. think why almost every good game it was going to get that wasnt from Nintendo was cancelled, and literally all support is gone
your full of it
Name:
Anonymous2006-03-02 15:45
I could believe it sold 53 million, but it's still in last place compared to PS2 and Xbox. I was hoping it would bring in NES and SNES levels of popularity, but that was idealistic delusion on my part. Saying it's a step up from N64 doesn't mean much either.
