GBA RPG Recommendations?

Played most of the older ones but I'm wondering if there are any semi-recent ones that I might have missed?  Or maybe ones that are just coming out to watch out for?

Not so hot on tactical/strategic games masquerading as RPGs, but more along the lines of classic RPGs, but then again, beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

Let me guess: You associate "classic" RPGs with "Final Fantasy" and not the gold box series.  Or Questron.  Or Ultima.  Or Alternate Reality.  Or Zork.  Or even, dare I say it, nethack.

Sadly, when I actually MEAN classic, I mean PnP 2nd ed AD&D.  The problem is, only about 2% of people on messageboards actually know what I'm talking about.

You have to remember the audience that you're talking to is a good 15-20+ years younger than I am, so I have to 'dumb-down' the terms.

But yes, when I refer to 'classic', I'm talking about console RPGs (we ARE talking about a GBA here) such as Final Fantasy and such.  Aside from the Eye of the Beholder remake for the GBA, please show me a gold box game that made the conversion as well.

FWIW, I was playing hack (yes, hack the precursor, not nethack) in university.

>>3 weeps for today's internet nubs thinking they're 'oldschool' when they're really just pretentious children.  We're all very impressed with your leetness.

Hack?  I always thought it was called Rouge before it became Nethack.  But assorted classic BBS door games aside, I enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced for GBA.  Another one that I played a little of was Golden Sun.  There is also the sequel to Golden Sun, no suprise here, Golden Sun 2.  I have also heard that Fire Emblem was good, but I have never tried it.

Great GBA RPGs
Fire Emblem series
-The first gets interesting a lot later than the second, the more unique character classes (Pegasus Nights, Dragon mounts, etc.) are available early in Sacred Stones, compared to the first. (Around chapter 18.)
Advance Wars
-More a strategy game, although the new DS cart allows you to level your COs in order to use stat boosters.
FFTA
-Tactical game, major RPG elements. This is a smaller FFT, no lies.
LoZ- Minish Cap
-Classic Zelda, new art style. It's been dumbed down a bit for younger audiences, but the classic LttP dungeon crawling is still there.
Final Fantasy
-FF classics I and II have been recently released, I believe III came out as well, and IV is on the way.
Golden Sun- Great classic-styled RPGs. The Second has the option of loading a code from the first (upon completing GS1) that allows you to regroup with your old GS1 party in GS2. (w/o the cod, they start at a lower level, less extras, and without the major monetary gains you may have had in GS1.) GS1 and GS2 both take a long time unless you managed to fly through LttP, which may be a downside considering that you're playing on the GBA.

Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis

Much, much better SRPG than the terrible, overhyped FFT:A.

4: The family tree is like this:

Rogue (original) -> Hack -> Nethack

(for comparison) Moria -> Angband -> Angband-alikes

Moria was an original creation, but Nethack slowly evolved from Rogue.

Riviera: The Promised Land, awesome GBA RPG.

OH YEAH, RIVIERA. >>5 again, by the way.

I just pulled out my GBA game stash today, remembered that Boktai 2 is heavy on the RPG elements, although it's an action/adventure game at heart.

Don't change these.
