Is anyone ever going to make a 4chan game? Or a mud? Or something?

An effort was made for several months through last year to make an original software (i.e., no rm2k) RPG, but little actual work was done and the project fell through due to lack of interest from the team.
I've idly considered a 4chan MUD in the past, but again, lack of interest.
no, there are people that give a shit, but it's not groups of them. Usually individuals.
Making a game from scratch is time consuming and requires alot of skill and knowledge.
I myself tried a FF5 hack for 4chan, and got about half way done before I tried to hack the magic, and got overwhelmed by the sheer amount of SNES Assembly hacking that would be needed to make an original game out of FF5.
Also, It would take me at 3 or 4 years to complete such a huge task.
Basically none of us was able to manage either our people or our time well enough, the only real artist we had left the internet for a while to do some real life stuff, I came back into the channel after a weekend of being away from the internet and saw there was one person left in there so I didn't come back, we could CODE but none of us knew WHAT to code or how to divide the labor up or anything.
We started out with tons of energy and it just tapered off because no one ever really took direction. I wanted to code, I didn't want to be the one managing people, and everyone I guess just decided "Oh I'll just let <person> handle the HR stuff" and we didn't ever get anywhere. Maybe we'll pick it up again some time, I personally (the one who came up with the original idea and a good amount of the original storyline) would love to do it because it would give me a chance to code again when I haven't done it for so long.
tl,dr - project died due to lack of real direction though I want to resurrect it at some point
The idea will die multiple times because of bad funding and be revived multiple times. Does anyone else see a history forming with anything/everything 4chan?

As long as it gets done and is a quality product.
RPG sounds like a lot of work. Why not just sprite hack Gunstar Heroes or something level based instead? That way you could get initial planning done to get an overall idea and then separate into a few teams to get several of the pre-scripted levels done at once.
There's probably not enough boss encounters to get every last meme, but as long as a game is released, it'll get enough attention to attract more interested coders and designers, and gather some momentum for a possible sequel.
A 4chan game show video game would rule if it ever got made. Like a knockoff of Wheel of Fortune called Wryyyyyyyyyyyyyl of 4chan. Memes can be the answer, bankrupt spaces will be replaced by banned spaces, and an 8bit Megaman can be running in the center of the wheel. It's not quite on the same scale as an rpg, but it would be pretty awesome if someone managed to take on the concept. It's not original, but then again neither is 4chan. lol internet

A text adventure would be fun and probably simple to do. I wanted to start a mini-interactive fiction thread in /Fiction/, but OH NOES THE BOARD IS DOWN :(
One concept I had was LongPac. Pac-Man mixed with Snakes, Longcat flies around a maze eating up donations and avoiding memes.

Does anyone here design MUGEN characters? I used to play that game, but I stopped after they dropped support for non Lunix Lusers (sorry, I'm just not 1337 enough for that OS). But anyway, I'd love to see a set of 4chan characters for that type of fighting game. If anyone is familiar with MUGEN, they'll know what I mean.

It's already happened with the Soul Calibur 3 character maker. There's already a few Mongler characters out there.

I like the idea of a FF5 rom hack. Did antonye ever use the map editor for the game "soldat" . I think that allowed you to import pics

Haha, I more meant lack of interest from myself, and the few people I've offhandedly mentioned the idea to.

Someone should make a flash game, its easy to do, easy to learn, and you can create a large project in a much shorter time frame.

I could see a ZZT coming out of this. Countless hours wasted by me and my friends until nose bleeds ensued and we got into the meth that the teacher hid under the computer cabinet wooooooo~

Okay, I'm kinda bored and wondering what people think. What would you like to see in a 4chan MUD? What kind of systems, in terms of classes, stats, races(?), etc. I don't mean specific stuff like 'THEIR SHULD BE A BAN HAMR WEAPON +5 ATT POWR', just general ideas.
This doesn't mean I'm actively planning anything, just sorta brainstorming.
The Banhammer should be an ultra-secret, obscenely powerful weapon if anything.

Every board could be it's own part of the game world with different items, monsters, and effects on some of your items. It should have a lot of zOMG secret areas and possibly containing pics from the site (w00t 4chan bromides). As for class/race, combining the two and referring to the player as a user type might be easier (ie Anonymous, Camwhore, Troll, Tripfag, etc.). They would each have unique opening stats and unique skills and traits. As for skills, put in Za Warudo as a lvl99 skill for some ultra crappy class and make it horribly overpowered.

Agreed. This would make for a cool game. And by cool, I mean totally sweet. And by totally sweet, I mean TOTALLY RAD!
... No, seriously, this idea sounds awesome.

ATTN >>5,9 ARE YOU STILL AROUND. I've been fucking with FF5 lately and just remembered your posts. Speak up if you're about, maybe we can learn from each other (okay, maybe I can learn from you, I doubt there's anything I know that you don't already). thx.

>>34's idea is a big win. If effort/management required was the main problem of the first development efforts, you could avoid a lot of trouble by still making a simpler game from scratch. While cool, I think packing 4chan's essence into sprites for a typical FF RPG is troublesome. We have a great variety of 4chan art to draw from without needing to make new stuff - all of the photoshops could retain their original glory if the game were changed to accomodate them. The first thing that came to my head was a game like Radical Dreamers where most of the time static images are used to tell the story. Yet, this doesn't prevent the other idea from being used - and it's a lot easier to make. As someone else mentioned, once some finished product can be put out, it would be much easier to get others' interest.

Making a few sets of sprites for the playable characters isn't much of a problem; the npcs and other characters really just need 2 frames of animation. As for 4chan's massive pool of image resources, they would be copypasta'd into the game.
Whenever there's character conversation, the cut and paste images would appear above the text box, making for entertaining dialogue that doesn't require any new artwork. Battle and boss encounters require no sprites, just more copy paste. Attacks would be cut and paste as well to keep the authenticity; for instance a P.Duffy and steamroller summon. With this model, the game would more or less be a giant collection of interactive animated gif material.

I CAN SEE FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
why not just mod mugen for this 4chan game god damnit?
Drawfag here. May be a bit late, but I'd be willing to do some art for it, if it ever takes off. I can photoshop fairly well, too, and know some people who are really good at it.

I'm in a team working on an old school RPG game about hackers, and just came across this thread so I thought I'd say hello. We do not plan to make the game 4chan-centric, but there will be a lot of inspiration from our whereabouts of many years here. Coding for the PS3 pays my bills, so I know a few things about making a game, for those who worry (or laugh).
The global idea: we would like the storyline to resemble GTA, except with more drugs, fewer guns, and a lot more computers and electronic devices. You start as a wannabe hacker living in his parent's basement who smokes weed and trolls the shit out of everything, scamming, doxing, ruining, DoSing etc., including IRL trolls. Graphically, we're thinking FF5, ChronoTrigger, Secret of Mana... except with 32×32 tiles instead of 16×16.
We have thousands of ideas, but our major issue is with the combat system. Security software (portscanner, botnets, sniffer, IDS) makes for a good attack/defense system that may be the equivalent of magic. But I don't see how we can combine that with physical fights in a credible manner. And I'm not sure having two different combat systems would make an interesting game. What do you think?

Wow, I checked some Uplink gameplay footage. It looks interesting, but isn't it boring and repetitive after a while?
