4chan game

Is anyone ever going to make a 4chan game? Or a mud? Or something?

>>34's idea is a big win. If effort/management required was the main problem of the first development efforts, you could avoid a lot of trouble by still making a simpler game from scratch. While cool, I think packing 4chan's essence into sprites for a typical FF RPG is troublesome. We have a great variety of 4chan art to draw from without needing to make new stuff - all of the photoshops could retain their original glory if the game were changed to accomodate them. The first thing that came to my head was a game like Radical Dreamers where most of the time static images are used to tell the story. Yet, this doesn't prevent the other idea from being used - and it's a lot easier to make. As someone else mentioned, once some finished product can be put out, it would be much easier to get others' interest.

Just make a new game.  Rom hacking is a hell that no man deserves.

Disorganized. Game would fail hard.

People still do Rom hacks?!

Making a few sets of sprites for the playable characters isn't much of a problem; the npcs and other characters really just need 2 frames of animation. As for 4chan's massive pool of image resources, they would be copypasta'd into the game.

Whenever there's character conversation, the cut and paste images would appear above the text box, making for entertaining dialogue that doesn't require any new artwork. Battle and boss encounters require no sprites, just more copy paste. Attacks would be cut and paste as well to keep the authenticity; for instance a P.Duffy and steamroller summon. With this model, the game would more or less be a giant collection of interactive animated gif material.

If anyone is still interested in making a 4chan game we could use BasiEgaXorz(http://devster.monkeeh.com/sega/basiegaxorz/), it's a basic compiler for the sega genesis. I set up an imageboard here if anyone's interested! http://dev.randomfantasy.com/wakaba.html

A 4chan fighting game would be sweet. Anonymous, Happy Negro, Pedobear, Mudkips, Slowpoke, Epic Fail Guy, Cockmongler and Suiseki could be characters.

When you start off you could be called Newfag

Drawfag here. May be a bit late, but I'd be willing to do some art for it, if it ever takes off. I can photoshop fairly well, too, and know some people who are really good at it.

I'm in a team working on an old school RPG game about hackers, and just came across this thread so I thought I'd say hello. We do not plan to make the game 4chan-centric, but there will be a lot of inspiration from our whereabouts of many years here. Coding for the PS3 pays my bills, so I know a few things about making a game, for those who worry (or laugh).

The global idea: we would like the storyline to resemble GTA, except with more drugs, fewer guns, and a lot more computers and electronic devices. You start as a wannabe hacker living in his parent's basement who smokes weed and trolls the shit out of everything, scamming, doxing, ruining, DoSing etc., including IRL trolls. Graphically, we're thinking FF5, ChronoTrigger, Secret of Mana... except with 32×32 tiles instead of 16×16.

We have thousands of ideas, but our major issue is with the combat system. Security software (portscanner, botnets, sniffer, IDS) makes for a good attack/defense system that may be the equivalent of magic. But I don't see how we can combine that with physical fights in a credible manner. And I'm not sure having two different combat systems would make an interesting game. What do you think?

Anon working on the game: check out Uplink. Classic example of a good game based around hacking.

Wow, I checked some Uplink gameplay footage. It looks interesting, but isn't it boring and repetitive after a while?
