The Fanta conspiracy?

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-29 21:23

Has anyone else who's been out of the country noticed that Fanta is terrible only in the U.S.? I've been to Japan, and melon, and other Fanta flavors were quite popular. Personally, I think melon Fanta is one of the greatest drinks out there. Also, my sister has been to Europe, and apparently Fanta was popular there, as well. She said that the Fanta there was awesome, but we both agree Fanta is awful here in the U.S.

Has anyone else noticed that the U.S. Fanta formulas aren't up to par with the rest of the world?

I recall reading somewhere once that sodas in general suck in the US because instead of being made with real sugar they're made with corn syrup.

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-30 11:31

Mmm... High Fructose Corn Syrup

Fanta was originally a NAZI drink, and I'm serious about this.
During WW2 Germany had trouble getting what they needed to make Coke from the US, so the germans made their own soft drink and called it fanta.
So remember kids, whenever you drink a fanta, you could just as well be wearing an SS uniform and hailing hitlarrr.

But I already do

How does that make it a Nazi drink?
It's not like Fanta was created because the Nazi leadership decided they needed their own drink.  Some entrepreneuring manager at Coca-Cola worked around politics to get a drink out.

What I don't like is the Fantana girls who sing like hell.  So god damnede annoying!  If they showed up, I'd bludgeon their brains out while fucking them in the ass to show my gratitude for dancing like a retard for me!

Name: Anonymous 2005-09-01 14:07

I don't mind that so much as the fact they have to appear before every fucking movie preview.   After the repetetive coca-cola trivia and elevator music, the commercials and previews took a full TWENTY MINUTES before the actual movie started.  Wrong, just wrong.

regular fanta in the uk tastes fine, but did anyone notice in most other countries it's bright orange as opposed to a mellow yellow?

Name: Anonymous 2005-09-07 7:35

What are you talking about, regular fanta tastes like carbonated orange squash.

Orangina ftw.

Speaking of Mellow Yellow, what happened to it?

They still sell it in the south.

Billy Hill ftw

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-01 10:16

Surrrrrrrge is still around.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-09 13:40

corn surup is the reason people get fat, and subsequently the reason they take thigns away in the name of social improvement

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-09 13:44

Hay guyz, did you know that corn syrup is much, MUCH more fattening than plain old sugar? Can you believe people actually BITCHED about sugar, and insisted on corn syrup?

It rots from within.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-12 13:26

corn syrup is also much, much cheaper to produce than cane sugar is

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-14 16:03

>>20
That's bullshit.  It's just sugar, unless corn syrup contains, I dunno, fat or wax or something, your claim is complete BS.  Sugar is sugar, whether from honey, brown sugar, cane sugar or maple syrup.  Even most carbohydrates (bread) have almost the same calories per ounce as sugar (carbohydrate is a chain of sugar molecules)

In other words, you're making shit up.  Stop it.

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-15 13:47

>>22
Good point.

Hey >>20 , have any sources to back that up?

Name: Anonymous 2005-11-15 23:07

>>22
Yes, but you have to remember there are monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. Monosaccharides are the worst  sugar for you as it doesnt need much energy to be broken down. polysaccharides are best because it takes more energy to break down. that is why potatos are better for you than pixy sticks.

Sugar is not all the same.

and about Mellow Yellow--I live in the south.. (sort of) and I have NEVER heard of it.

I've lived in florida for the last twenty years. It's not really the south (anyone who has ever lived here can understand why) but I know what mellow yellow is. Used to be really popular years ago but recently I haven't seen or heard much of it, much less tried any in a while.

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-01 10:21

Sounds like a bunch of teen agers with low self esteme out there..............so what is really the point........WOW vanity and cursing...a real winner for you. You will go places.

Name: mizukami 2005-12-06 1:05

this is why I hate going to fast food places in general in the U.S. Unless you go to a mexican food joint, it's impossible to find drinks made with sugar cane.

>>21
It isn't just the fact that it's cheaper. The corn industry owns huge markets in everything from fuel additives to sweetners. Even if cane sugar was cheaper, I'd doubt Coca-cola or any of the soft drink manufacturers would turn their back on corn syrup...the stuff is easier to transport and mix in.

And the moral of the story is to stand on the sides of the highway and yell CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARN!!!!!!!!!11101011

when i went to austria and hungary all they had was pepsi and fanta, the fanta was really good but here it tastes like watered down oj and semen

They also sell Mellow Yellow in California (and not just shitty backwards parts of it like Bakersfield and Fresno). I was first introduced to that vile piss-like solution at a Subway in Anaheim.

Just like anime and manga, the "rights" to producing drinks abroad can differ from the company associated with it in the United States.  They usually change the formula for various reasons, from economic reasons to local tastes; like the Coke in Japan is noticeably less sweet than the one in the U.S., which actually makes it taste better, in my opinion.

Hawaii also has a Fanta fruit punch flavor that supposedly isn't available outside of the state. Since I'm not about to go searching around for a soda, and especially not Fanta, has anyone ever seen it anywhere else other than Hawaii?

That flavor, and the melon flavor, happen to be the only tolerable fanta flavors I've tasted.

>>27
I agree. The first thing I look for on drinks in general is the ingredients, and I check for corn syrup. That stuff is really bad for you. Most of the drinks with sugar from cane that I've seen are all smaller brands sold at places like Trader Joes, Gelson's, Wild Oats, etc., and they also cost a little more. But I guess if you're craving a sweet drink at the time, it's better to spend a little more money than put that high fructose corn syrup shit into your body.

I live in California and I have never once encountered Mellow Yellow on tap. And FYI, Anaheim is shitty and backwards.

Anaheim is pretty backwards, but once you've been to Bakersfield, you'll consider Anaheim to be the pinnacle of modern civilization.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-09 17:56

I had some pretty damn good Fanta in Greece. Citrus and grape were the best.

Name: Anonymous 2006-07-10 3:43

It only tastes better because you don't feel the bitter sting of the 9/11 tradegy when you visit other countries.

We used to get it at the movie theater all the time.  On rare occasions you'll find it around here (the midwest) at a fast food place, but that's about it.  I think you might be able to buy it at the grocery store still, but it's one of the sodas that's in the back of the store with all the generic stuff--you know, the place where nobody visits.  Thus, Mellow Yellow has been forgotten by many.
