Instant Ramen

Name: Anonymous 2005-02-21 3:40

So. How do you prepare your instant (dried or frozen) ramen dishes?

Name: Anonymous 2005-02-22 6:00

Sapporo Ichiban. Boil with some green onions and the seasoning, add eggs when the noodles are soft. Serve with Tabasco (lots). Finish with rice in the soup. Incredible. And really bad for you...

You must be a veteran!

Combine one can of mixed vegetables and one can of chickpeas, including all liquid, in saucepan.  Bring to a boil.  Drop in broken noodles and contents of seasoning packet.  Stir.  Let stand until noodles absorb enough moisture to become edible.  Enjoy.

Yeah, I've had it for years.

Is frozen ramen better than dried? At the Asian market store here, I see a lot of people buying the frozen kind. Does it taste better?

There's this Food Network chef who makes these "ramen pouches". Haven't tried it myself.

2 packages Ramen noodles
Special equipment: 4 (18-inch) squares aluminum foil
1/2 cup dried mushrooms, chopped
20 large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup sliced scallions
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 cup vegetable broth
1/4 cup mirin
2 tablespoons soy sauce
4 teaspoons sesame oil

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Divide ramen noodles evenly in center of each of the four pieces of aluminum foil. Stack the following ingredients on top of noodles, in this order: mushrooms, shrimp, onions, scallions, red pepper flakes, and salt. Pull sides and corners of pouch up to form a small basket shape leaving an opening at the top to pour in liquid.

In small bowl, combine vegetable broth, mirin, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Distribute liquid evenly among packs. Press foil together, leaving a small opening to allow steam to escape. Place on cookie sheet and bake in oven for 15 minutes. Serve immediately.

I'll try that

Name: Anonymous 2005-02-27 17:48

I find it best just to toss it in the nuker with the water in it already, you can add veggies of basically any type and it is great.

...and cheap.

I tried to make this crepe thing, once. I boiled the ramen and then pan-fried it. In another pan, I took some crepe batter, and made, well, a crepe. While the crepe was in the pan, I put some shredded lettuce, carrots, chicken (cooked), and onions on top of it. Added some mayonnaise, wasabi, and a bit of soy sauce. Then I put the pan-fried ramen on top of all that. And I rolled it all up. It was alright.

That sounds like an okonomiyaki.

Name: Paula-tan 2005-03-02 15:34

okonomiyaki isnt rolled up though. it sounds like a huge and delicious crepe :P~~ i should make my own crepes one of these days instead of wasting $5 at a crepe shop. X_X

a cross between a crepe and okonomiyaki, perhaps?

what do some of you do with the soup packets? i have a whole bunch since i don't use them that much. i tried making a salad dressing with them, once...

Name: Adolf der Weihnachtsmann 2005-03-08 4:49

I usually use two of those packets at once, cause the cheap instant ramen I bought cheaply from some japanese market in my area, needs way more of the flavor stuff than is included.
So the other pack which is left behind without the Soup gets drowned in ordinary broth anbd or hungarian spices (lol)
Tastes better than the original.
Guess I have to check out another brand of instant ramen, huh?

Name: Anonymous 2005-03-14 5:02

What brand of ramen you get? Right now, we have this Neoguri udon thing (Korean?) and the Nissin "Rao Shoyu" bowls that have the sealed-fresh noodles w/ a bag of meat.

LOL RAMEN IS THE STAPLE OF INTERNET PEOPLE

LOL

Name: Anonymous 2005-06-03 0:25

I usually put maruchan ramen in a bowl, put the flavor pack and water in it. Put it in the microwave for about 3 minutes, take it out, and I sometimes add cheeses to it. Gets stuck to your spoon, but hey, it works. Tastes a bit better, too. I also throw random spices and shit into it to see if I notice anything better about it, which I normally don't.

Haha! Nice to know I'm not the only one who puts cheese in their ramen.

I don't eat instant ramen much anymore. I've moved onto instant rice noodles ;D

Name: Anonymous 2005-06-04 2:15

with out Maruchan the internet would die

Name: Anonymous 2005-06-04 18:01

I was just checking out the nutritional info on a pack of ramen... its HORRIBLE for you!  Tons of sodium (mostly in the flavoring packet, I assum), but oddly enough very high in calories and saturated fat.  Dunno why that is.  Frozen burritos are better for you.

Name: Anonymous 2005-06-05 19:49

you can prepare Ramen without the broth.  Just use hot water.  I know, it doesn't sound great, but you can always add whatever's ying around the house.  like... Tabasco. or something.

Name: Anonymous 2005-06-22 2:45

TRY THIS SHIT OUT TARDS:

Take CHICKEN FLAVORED MARUCHAN RAMEN NOODLES
Put HALF THE SEASONING PACKET IN A BOWL
ADD HALF A TABLESPOON OF SUGAR (or some honey)
ADD SOME CRUSHED RED PEPPER
ADD SOME BLACK PEPPER
ADD SOME GARLIC POWDER (not garlic salt you CLOWNBARN!)
ADD SOME CINNAMON
MAKE RAMEN WITH THIS MIXTURE.

It's fucking good you fucking idiots!

Name: Anonymous 2005-06-22 2:52

I know I'm wasting my fucking time because you people are all stupid as shit and coultn't cook your way out of a fucking COOKIng DUNGEON OR SOME SHIT wtf Am I talking about it doesn't matter because HERES ANOTHER FUCKING GOOD AS SHIT RECIPE FOR RAMEN:

3 CUPS WATER IN A PAN
ABOUT 5 TABLESPOONS OF MEMMI SAUCE BY KIKKOMAN (FIND IT AT SOME PLACE I DUNNO STOP PRESSURING ME! Add just enough to turn the water a dark brown, darker than a caramel color)
ADD SOME GARLIC POWDER
ADD SOME HONEY (sugar won't work if you add suger you get shot)
ADD SOME SESAME OIL (about the side of a quarter on top of the water)
ADD SOME SEASONING PACKET (not beef flavor!  If you have beef flavor ramen, you'll need to use instant chicken broth instead)
ADD SOME RED PEPPER if you aren't a fucking painty waist who needs things to be mild like BELLE FROM FUCKING BEAUTY AND THE BEAST I FUCKING HATE DISNEY ANIMATION!!!!!!
ADD SOME CUT UP TERIYAKI MARINADED BEEF TOWARD THE END IF YOU WANT TO, ABOUT 30 SECONDS PRIOR TO THE NOODLES BEING DONE.  YOU CAN ALSO ADD TERIYAKI MARINADED SHRIMP IF YOU WANT.

MIX IT ALL UP AND EAT IT.  Knowing you kid you've probably chocked on your chopsticks by now so I'm wasting my effort, but just in case you're still alive ENJOY YOUR RAMEN or I fucking punch your lights out!

No.

Name: Anonymous 2005-09-02 13:39

usually i'll just add a dash of soy sauce and lots of pepper. sometimes i'll crack an egg, add a little green onion and sliced up ham. I've tried "egg drop" ramen and it just makes it look gross, but just cracking an egg and have it poach is good.

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-14 14:02

ramen with poached egg is good.

ramen with spinach and veggie boullion.

Chinese ramen, tokyo shoyu and curry.  MMM CURRY RAMEN.

Name: Anonymous 2005-10-15 12:17

prepare ramen like normal, drain, then pan-fry it with a can of creme of mushroom soup and a handful of bread crumbs.

yum.

Name: Lithium 2005-10-15 12:46

I just crush up the dry noodles and add the seasoning
