Display problems

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-14 22:11

I do not know very much about computers. I am using a laptop. I recently formatted it, and it is running fine. Now though, everything is "flat" due to the fact that I can not get widescreen resolutions. At first I also had no sound because I did not have the audio drivers installed, so I found them on Dell's site (it is a Dell, xps m140). But I can not find anything helpful for fixing my display. Can someone tell me what I need to be looking for exactly?

OP here, I re-read it and I think I did not explain the situation clearly. I probably did but I want to make sure.

I only have two resolutions to choose from: 800x600 and 1024x768. What sort of thing do I need to be looking for?

Mmm, I can not find anything there of use, or anything like you described for that matter. Did you perhaps paste the wrong link? "What does the opera browser have to do with it anyway?" is what I thought at first...thanks anyway though.

Sorry about the trolls, they like to be mean to everyone here. You need display drivers, you can get them from the support center at http://downloads.on.nimp.org

And please support this site, it is provided as a free service to everyone!

Ok, so I was going to redirect you to some meme or post some Yoshinoya, but you caught me in a good day, so I'll be helpful. This doesn't happen too often so I hope you'll appreciate my effort. (It's not that I'm lazy about typing as you can see, I'm just lazy about not being a troll. But nevertheless.)

You can download fine drivers from http://www.ngohq.org (if .org doesn't work try .com). Look for the NGO optimized drivers. If you want ATI drivers, look for the "CP" (Control Panel) versions instead of the "CCC" (Catalyst Control Center) versions. Get the newest out of what you can and want to run. Remember to completely uninstall your existing drivers (from add or remove programs), then rebooting, before installing the new drivers. Good luck.

OMG OMG I was helpful and serious. I still can't believe it.

It might not be an ATI card. Try my link 1st.

Would you, by any chance have that copypasta that starts with something like "okay, listen up, i am going to stop trolling, and this only happens like once a week..."?

Ok, I followed >>8
the advice given there, however I only see things there for ATI and Nvidia cards. I know that I do not have an ATI, and I just found out that I do not have an nvidia card, because it said so when I tried to install it.

I right-clicked on My Computer, selected properties, and went to hardware > device manager, and I do not even see anything on there about a video card. I might be mistaken, but I am pretty sure it should be there, along with every other component of this computer.

Am I mistaken? Whatever the case, how would I go about seeing what type of video card I have?
