This laptop i bought on an impulse buy. :(
longURL is loooong.....auction number is #250048447640.

its got a 8.9" screen, and although a larger screen would be nice, i opted for this one because of its small size. Built-in wireless and a integrated fingerprint reader are a plus. other than that, its not much more than a really, really tiny laptop. (2.2lbs, or about 1.0kg according to laptopmag.com) ...wait...1kg? that cant be right...thats not including the battery, right?

MSRP is 1599, google puts the thing at 1200-1500USD, i paid 1017 after shipping and tax.

and best of all, finger-sensitive touchscreen! no more losing that goddamn expensive tablet pen!!!

http://www.laptopmag.com/Review/Fujitsu-LifeBook-P1510D.htm

i may not be proud of my willpower (or lack of), but my laptop says "yeah, its tiny. so what?!"

im happy either way, so tell me if i failed for buying this lilliputian laptop. i'll post again once i actually have the thing in my hands. will it satisfy my need for portable weeaboo faggotry? will i drop to the ground in a mounrful VERY NO?!?! stay tuned! :)

It's a refurb, I'm not sure if I trust that.

Fujitsu LifeBooks are pretty slick. Good work with that. You'll probably get over the "WOW NEAT GADGET" thing soon, but for the time you have it you'll like it and I bet it'll retain its value pretty well.

OP here.

thanks for the input, >>4! im gonna put it through its paces during the 90 day warranty and not leave feedback till im sure 110% that it works. mainly i wanted a super-light computer to take back and forth to work and school, the tablet feature was more of an afterthought. it kinda irks me that theres no optical drive, but i have a spare DVD burner and a IDE-->USB enclosure. worse come to worse, i can always share one of my optical drives on the network. :)

Things to ensure:
1) make sure unit can boot from a USB device.
2) ensure hdd has no minute errors on it that would cause trouble. (although a 30gb laptop drive isnt that hard to replace)
3) ensure screen is in good dquality.
4) ensure "cosmetic flaws" do not interfere with usability (i.e. missing plastic covering the hinge, severe enough damage to be noticable from a fair distance away, no deep gouges or dents.)
5) ensure unit comes with all accessories needed. (Ac adapter, battery, Restore CDs)

any other things i should look out for in a refurb? it's fujitsu-direct (which is why i had to pay tax), so its not like im putting my faith into "some guy", but you can never be too careful. thanks world4ch!

It should suit you great for taking to school, though the teeny tiny keyboard might be an obstacle after a while. Living without an optical drive is par for the course when it comes to ultraportables, though, I wouldn't be bothered about that - I'm personally thinking of getting an old Thinkpad X series next year for notetaking.

Your list sounds pretty good. If you want to be a real paranoid freak, I'd find some sort of hardware testing suite that lets you thrash the RAM for errors and do stuff like that, but my averison to refurbs above is more based on "eww my thing might not be as shiny" rather than bad experiences with low quality products - I'm sure you'll be fine.

Is there a way for you to get some sort of extended warranty, though? It's my personal opinion that all laptops are made of the shittiest parts available and I would sadly bet money that you'll have hardware issues before the first year of ownership is over. I'd be prepared for that, at least, and most likely I'd be looking for some way to insure it in case the motherboard fizzles out 3 months from now - three out of the three laptops I've ever owned have all failed in various respects and I could not handle the idea of owning a new and expensive laptop out of warranty.

>>6, i have access to PC-Check through work, and it does an admirable job testing memory, HDD, and other parts of units.

i probobly will gripe at the little eraser-nub more than the keyboard. over the years, i got good at using the touchpad. :) ive used mini laptops before, and my typing style usually allows for a lot of looking at the keypad, so i dont miss keys as often. i did see an extended warranty, but sadly, the amount of money i have is finite and that would have put me over-budget. (frankly, i wanted to spend 800-900 max. i went over already)
I was debating seeing if i can get an insurance plan (like allstate) so if it does break, i can drop it out the window, pay the deductable, and get a check for its value. but that comes later, after i read the applicable fine-print.

gosh, helpful responses... its like im not on 4chan anymore. its a little scary.

PS: if your thing is shiny, you might want to see a doctor. and stop taking Enzyte, thats one of the side-effects.

hello, OP here.  l have my Laptop. tablet text is not perfect,bu+ you can do it with one hand.  unit switches handily from landscape to portrait so use in a mobile setting is easy. even though it is a refurb, there are no scratches or dings on the unit at all.

so i finally got the tablet pc and am getting of using it. So far, i really enjoy how easy it is to write even though i have Very bad handwriting. it amazes me hoW accurate handwriting recognition can be  even though I've been writing quickly tstryardisnfuse it. (success!)  That wag supposed  to be   "to try and confuse it" .

as far as the laptop itself, it's very nice. but it runs so hot  it worries me. I suppose that's the Price i pay for a 1.2  Ghz processor.apparentlY the Computer  is far less accurate  detecting  letters individually  Than recognizing whole words.
wireless works beautifully , and the Screen is Crisp and bright.  the unit actually weighs  less than The box it came in!
the unit came with  three CDs. but the device has  no optical drive.  for reference,  this laptop Weighs about as much as  10 rolls of quarters. (possibly less.) the  unit has a fingerprint reader, and once set up is very  accurate.  Overall. out of 10,  I would rate this laptop an 8 of 10.
