Which one is better?(ignoring costs)
I'm thinking of making a dual core system, but woundering if one is better then the other, and how so.

dual processors i think. because you'd be seperating the heat sources, so both would essentiually run cooler with its own fan and heat sink setup. i'm guessing that that would be anadvantage, but i'm not sure.

each core in a multi-core cpu shares some common components between each core, thereby causing some contention for cpu components.
this isn't true for multi-cpu setups.
so, multi-cpu (as opposed to multi-core) is going to be a bit faster. however, multi-cpu requires more power, more fans, more motherboard space, etc. and the difference in performance is probably not worth it unless you are doing extensive computational work or extremely heavy serving.
Multi CPU is better in terms of scalability. you can get 4cpu mobos, although i cant think of any good reason to have a 4CPU system short of being some sort of mid-to-high-volume server.
but price to power ratio, dual core wipes the floor with multi-cpu at the consumer level. (i.e. under 3000USD)
Dual Core is better for multithreaded applications, since they are likely to be accessing the same data at approximately the same time, so there are fewer cache misses. Dual CPUs is better for multiple single threaded applications, because each chip has it's own L2 cache, and since each program is working in its own memory space, there will be fewer cache misses.
Actually, nevermind, My logic is retarded. Dual Core is better.

Multi-processor systems are better for both single and multi-threaded, Single threaded apps can run on a single CPU that will have access directly to its own set of memory, seperated from background processes. Multi-threaded apps get more memory bandwidth due to each CPU having it's own RAM, whereas a single dual-core CPU still has to force threads to take turns waiting to access the memory bank. Cache misses are not as significant when you can have 2 threads simultaneously execute, and simultaneously access their own memory spaces.
