my fucking windows doesnt work anymore. well it actually does, but only in safe mode. on normal mode the monitor just turn off like it does when you setup the monitor to turn off after some idle time to save power, and stays like that, unusable

WHAT HAPPEN?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 17:48

Maybe your graphics card blew, as safe mode uses the onboard shitty video drivers.  Check that first.

how can i verify if there is something wrong with my graphics card?

Your monitor stops working?

well, it turns off, but still has power. it stays like when you leave pc idle for some time and the monitor turn off, for energy saving purposes. when you press anything on keyboard or move the mouse cursor its supposed to turn on again, but it never happens

Take it out and reboot - you should be able to start windows in normal mode after you remove it if it's the graphics card (admittedly with shit graphics - but at least you'll know it's the card if it lets you start it).

Yeah, your monitor stays on if there's no input. Most monitors have green for online and orange lights for when they're asleep or not receiving video.

If your video is dying then it's a video card issue.

did you change the resolution (or did some game) to one that your monitor does not support

reboot in safe mode, set resoultion to 800x600 and reboot.

no its not because of change of resolution, i was browsing some stuff on the internet when that happened. i actually thought it was some kind of virus but i discarted that possibility after i formatted the hd and the same problem happened again. i think the problem is the video card... if it is, too bad i dont have the money to buy another one T_T

Many monitors can *look* like they're not receiving an input when they are receiving an input that is outside the resolution and/or refresh rate they can support (some monitors put up an "out of range" or similar message, but most just turn the power/standby light orange, the same as with power saving mode). Press F8 while booting up and choose VGA Mode, which will boot into Windows in normal mode but with the resolution and refresh rates reset to the lowest common denomiator that any functioning monitor can display. Then you can reset it back to your preferred resolution and it will stay like that.
