s½chost.exe what the fuck

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-23 17:33

I have a program in the task manager labeled s½chost.exe, and I cannot find it anywhere and its really bugging me seeing its taking up a shitload of memory and doing nothing.

Do I have shitty viruses or is my windows just fucked?

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-23 17:40

You have a shitty virus.

Stop using Internet Explorer

I tried to install warez lololol stupid noob of me.
:(
How do I kill it?

Install Linux.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-23 19:22

>>5
Install Nod32. Linux is as secure as a paper box.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-23 20:01

Reinstall Windows. Linux is for elitest retards.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-23 20:24

Correct.  Especially noting the fact that a paper box is not connected to the Internet and thus safe from all remote attacks apart from telekinesis and other attacks from that category.

Get an antivirus, antimalware tools (Spybot, Ad-aware, not Microsoft's which is malware itself), run.

P.S.: I'd stick to Windows. Linux is for communist hippies.

WHEN YOU DOWNLOAD CRACKS, DON'T RUN THE SELF-EXTRACTING ARCHIVES.  UNPACK THEM WITH WINRAR

SCAN ALL QUESTIONABLE EXECUTABLES WITH ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE BEFORE RUNNING

AND INSTALL LINUX

windows produces dumbasses who get into situations like >>1 does.

It's not the OS fault that it looks like it's made for idiots when it's not. Ok, maybe it is Explorer.exe's fault, but Explorer.exe is just a small, optional part of Windows.

On the other hand, Linux produces hippies, wankers, elitists, zealous, and other kinds of idiots, yet it's not its fault.

No they were all of those things before. Linux is just a good home for those kinds of people.

I actually did look at it with winrar.
:(

I just was kinda drunk.

Can I uninstall it? Can I still run Windows after that?
Unless I can do this, I wouldn't call it "optional"

Linux produces hippies, wankers, elitists, zealous, and other kinds of idiots
Windows does the same. Proof are most people in /b/

Manually (or through a tool), you can uninstall Explorer. Don't expect things that depend on it to work however.

Normally, you should just disable it (manually or through a tool) and use a different shell. If you're not running Explorer.exe, all it uses will be unloaded but available in case some application wants it.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-24 9:32

explorer.exe is really two programs in one, it's the file manager (called with folder name as an argument when you open a folder), and also the gui shell (called without arguments by windows when you login).

a lot of windows programs expect it to exist as a file manager.

I don't think they are so many (common dialogs will still work).

But the main point is you don't have to use it at all, and most importantly, Explorer.exe is not all there is to Windows. I find it funny how Linux people try Windows for 5 minutes and are all like "you cannot create hard links durrr" or "omg is dat sum performance" just because Explorer.exe sucks.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-24 10:17

>>21
Hardlinks are a feature of the filesystem, not the shell. Tard.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-24 10:32

>>22
You are the tard, please read my post again. I was making fun of these people.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-24 10:39

NTFS supports hardlinks.

Btw, I still think >>1 has a problem still.

Anyone know what it is or how to kill it?

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-25 4:12

Halp, this program isnt being seen by any adware/spyware/antivirus killers.

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-25 4:44

im no tech genius but try this:
run ad aware in safe mode, get all the locations of the files and remove them manually by opening their location folder and deleting

then go to start>run, and type in "msconfig" , click on the startup tab and disable everything you dont know what it is

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-25 8:01

Msconfig wins. :D

Don't change these.
