SATA and XP problem that needs solving

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-23 18:20

Here's the scenario. I've got 2 hard drives. 1 SATA and 1 IDE. The sata drive is split into two partitions, 1 for windows and 1 for ubuntu. The GRUB is installed into the MBR on the SATA drive (stupid, but thats the case) and the grub config file is on the linux partition.
When I try to load up the recovery console from the winxp boot cd to fixmbr, I can't logon to my XP partition because it won't recognise the SATA drive, even after loading the motherboard SATA drivers.
What I am trying to do is wipe the linux partition and resize the XP partition to the full size of the SATA drive and install ubuntu 5.10 onto the spare IDE drive, all while keeping my XP installation intact.

if the drives not recognised when booting chances are the boot order of the hard drives themselfs are set to boot of the IDE first then the SATA.

hello,
ubuntu is considered niggersoft because it's named after the african god of unborn fetus'.
As a result of using said niggersoft, you receive no help from 100.00% of the rest of the world. (0.001% margin of nigger-lover error => this means you >>1)

Take your asshattery back to /dis/, along with all the other unhelpful and pitiful attempts at humor you posted in the other threads mere minutes apart. This shit is not welcome here.

nope, I should've said that my boot order is set to boot the SATA drive first.

what you could try is to wipe the linux partition and reboot. this is probably gonna give you an error as GRUB can't find the config file. now reboot again and install ubuntu onto the IDE drive and make sure you set your SATA as the main boot partition and tell it to overwrite the MBR on that drive with the new one. the ubuntu installation, seeing as it's opensource and newer than the windows XP installation, should recognise your SATA drive and include windows XP in the boot menu for GRUB. fixd

VIP quality, but still lollable

I believe Windows will recognize your IDE drives first regardless of your boot sequence. Correct me if wrong.
