SATA and XP problem that needs solving

Name: Anonymous 2005-12-23 18:20

Here's the scenario. I've got 2 hard drives. 1 SATA and 1 IDE. The sata drive is split into two partitions, 1 for windows and 1 for ubuntu. The GRUB is installed into the MBR on the SATA drive (stupid, but thats the case) and the grub config file is on the linux partition.
When I try to load up the recovery console from the winxp boot cd to fixmbr, I can't logon to my XP partition because it won't recognise the SATA drive, even after loading the motherboard SATA drivers.
What I am trying to do is wipe the linux partition and resize the XP partition to the full size of the SATA drive and install ubuntu 5.10 onto the spare IDE drive, all while keeping my XP installation intact.
