Here's hoping for a healthy dose of Takashi Kojima and the rest of the SSY sakuga crew for the finale.

Many shows have horrible scheduling, or rather strict scheduling that doesn't allow any room for the animators. If an episode takes 6 weeks to animate, often the studio will only give 3 or 4.

It gets worse as a show goes on as animation will often spill over deadlines, which is fine for the first couple of episodes, but then you get later episodes where the team are animating right up until the day before it airs.

Then you get completely fucked up schedules like the Fujiko Lupin show which only began animating each episode 2 weeks before the airdate.

Well, there've certainly been worse walking animations in "professional" productions...

I'm surprised that Tsuru's Shippuuden Chikara mini series isn't on that list

Are Guilty Crown and UN-GO consistently well-animated enough to deserve a spot at the sakuga wiki's list?

>>252
Maybe it's just not added yet because the last episode aired in 2013?

How big is Titmouse comparing to typical Japanese studios?

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 3:53

Some of the 2011 titles were only added recently. Penguindrum probably got in for the same reason as Utena.

>>253

I haven't seen UN-GO yet, but it did have Kameda and obligatory Yutapon in the last episode. Guilty Crown is definitely above average for a TV series, but I'd group it in a lower tier if that list was ranked. Makihara's episodes are definitely worth watching though even if ep 4 wasn't as good as I remembered it to be. It's still the kind of show that has obvious cost cutting during the middle of each cour, there were some explosions and action sequences depicted as stills.

I still have no idea why stuff like Birdy and Star Driver aren't in there.

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 3:54

there is zetman...

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 3:56

>>256
Birdy isn't listed? That's absurd.

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 3:59

>>257
I didn't watch Zetman, but didn't it have Hisashi Mori as a regular animator? I believe Arasan and Nozomu Abe did some work as well, but I don't know how consistent was the animation.

I had a very fun meeting with Koji Morimoto森本晃司さん on skype today!

He's probably working on Short Peace's OP?

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 5:41

Is it me or.. KyoAni's quite tame with the animation these days...

Hyouka has been the only thing I remember that stood out recently...

Chuunibyou and Tamako have been fairly so so....

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 5:46

A lot of things could be changed in that list. The one-shot list could use some additions, for example nothing from Animemirai is there. At least Kizuna Ichigeki should be there I think.
And I wouldn't put Guilty Crown there, the standard should be a bit higher...

I'd say that both Chuu2Koi and Tamaket are quite easily superior in regards to animation so yes, it's just you. I'd take Hyouka's art direction any day, though.

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 7:55

>>263
hyouka animation was way better, stop joking

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 8:00

Hyouka, Chuu2 and Tamako looked rather equally well-animated to me, though Hyouka has the best art direction among the trio.

Good job supporting your claims, man.

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 8:23

Unless by animation you mean visuals in general, which isn't something I'd expect from people posting in a sakuga thread, you'll have to back that up because I don't think it is. All three of them have equally consistent animation quality and I can recall more excellent cuts in Chuu2Koi and Tamaket despite it being shorter so I see nothing wrong with saying that. As others said, though, I prefer the overall looks of Hyouka as well because it had an insane attention to detail and very deliberate art direction.

BLEACH #309, #319, #341

They got this one right

Big names worked on those episodes

I'm still amazed they recommend the 2006 Gaiking show as a Sakuga Anime.

What no Naruto Shippuden #167

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 13:59

>>271
I think it's there, the episode numbering is just added up with the original Naruto series so it's not numbered as episode 167.

Name: Anonymous 2013-03-12 14:00

>>270
Yutapon only worked on ep 13: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psAMCrBilao
Soichiro Matsuda is 0:20 to 0:40
Yutapon is 0:42 to 1:20
The green fireball after is Takashi Hashimoto

It actually has a lot of big name animators contribute in specific episodes, but outside of those episodes, the show has really low budget animation. The DVDs kinda fixed some of the more atrocious animation(I've seen comparison images between TV and DVD versions and my god the TV animation is terrible), but even with the fixes it still leaves something to desired for.

Out of like 39 episodes, only about 5-7 have good  "sakuga" animation.
Though episode 13 is extremely recommended, great character, mecha and effects animation all round with good direction.

Ep 13 =
Storyboard: Ken Ootsuka
Ep Director: Gou Koga
Chara AD: Tatsuzou Nishida
Mecha AD: KenO

KA: Yutaka Nakamura, Takashi Hashimoto, Soichiro Matsuda, Hiroyuki Imaishi, Akira Amemiya, Takaaki Wada, Kazuhiro Miwa, Ken Ootsuka
Hideki Hamasu, Takaaki Yamashita, Sushio, Mitsuko Baba, Yasuyuki Kai, Kenji Kuroyanagi, Hayashi Yuuki, Tatsuzou Nishida

It's like a mish mash of Gainax, Bones and Toei's best.

I dunno if it's just sakuga wiki users liking the fact that there were specific episodes with really good animation. Oh and I can't forget the 2nd OP by Bari with some of Kanada's final TV animation. Perhaps the Kanada link is what persuaded them to keep it as a recommended show? I don't know.

Ugh, it's those lousy digital effects again. Sometimes simple coloring for the effects works better. Good animation though.

I didn't know Tatsuya Yoshihara's directing that. Animation looks pretty good, one of the cuts in there seems like Yoshihara's.
