Let the Right One In

Quite possibly the only good vampire book written in the last 10+ years.  The stories it tells are so real, so moving, with none of the melo-dramatic, over-sexualized bullshit you see and hear about in so much of vampire literature these days.  I can't get it off my mind, and I don't want to.

Has anyone else read the book?  If so, what'd you think of it?  If not, go out and buy it, read it, and then tell me what you think.

You only know about it because of the film.

How close is the movie to the book?

Not really.  I heard about the film, and decided to read the book first because it seemed pretty interesting.  When I finished the book, I watched the movie.  I just hope the English remake doesn't suck.

The overall story between the two main characters is pretty close, but like with any movie, they had to leave a lot out because there simply wasn't time to fit it in.  The book's author wrote the screenplay and decided to focus on the love story between the main characters (don't worry, it's not retarded like Twilight).  Other elements of the book are still included, but toned down.  Definitely worth watching, though I'd recommend reading the book first.

What's your point?  That I only enjoyed the book because of the hype surrounding the movie?

I'm really picky about what I read these days, so when I heard about a vampire movie that was actually good, I was a bit skeptical.

I looked it up and, again, it seemed interesting.  I looked up the book when I noticed it was what the movie was based on and decided to read the book first, so I did.  Then I watched the movie.  I thoroughly enjoyed both.  Whatever hype surrounds both has nothing to do with it.

I just found out in this thread that the movie was based on a book. I watched it on Netflix last night because it seemed interesting. Now I have something to go buy and look forward to.

Oh, and they are making an American one? Why? The Swedish one was alright.

I love the Swedish film, but unfortunately, not too many people know about it because Americans are lazy and don't want to watch anything that's not in English and that wasn't shot in Hollywood.

Apparently the director of the Swedish film isn't happy about the remake, but the author of the book is excited because they're using the book to draw inspiration, rather than the Swedish film.

The best swedish book of the 00s was definately "Popular Music from vittula"

Don't change these.
