Keitaro recives so much abuse from the girls. I mean he gets told he is a loser endlessly. Also he goes with the girl Naru who puts him down the most. I think the whole thing is really dysfunctional.
I mean its gets really repetitive. "Your a loser! Pevert!!"
Still got 4 books of this to go. I really dont want to, but i need a complete set.

Wow! At last i find some people who think the same as me about Love Hina.
I really couldn't stand the girls abusing so much... Poor Keitaro. But he is displayed so vulnerable too. He's like a vegetable.
Most fans of Love Hina base their fanatism on the manga, so I got the manga. But my opinion about Love Hina didn't change at all.
"Shitty anime in a nutshell"... Yes. I couldn't understand the appeal of being abused like Keitaro. In fact, I couldn't stand the repetitive gag and I quitted the anime at episode 9, when it gets really boring. It was torture.
Bye!

The lasting appeal for me were the personality traits of some of the characters like Motoko, Kitsune and Seta. They aren't overdeveloped but they all contribute small bits to the slightly oddly enjoyable atmosphere. Most fans of this generation might have been introduced to the world of manga/anime with this series

i thought the anime was ok, and i though the manga was great, to each his own i suppose, it can be repetitive but i think the story is still pretty good... in the manga anyway.

Love hina would be ok if it was cut down to 4 books. I quite like the first 2 books as they are ok.
But as someone said it does get repetitive.
The anime is really boring. I dont like the extra characters in it either.

What the anime did for Love Hina was to condense it a bit and make it a bit easier to watch for those with shorter attention spans (like me). Still, to be honest I did go and read all of the manga anyway, but I also found myself getting kind of bored with it. Watching Keitaro fek up time after time after time after time after time... That kind of made my head hurt ("Move ON, Akamatsu!"). It would have been nice if Naru had shown some character development in the direction of learning to control her fscking temper and not sky-punch Keitaro every time he ended up seeing a girl in slightly less than full dress. By the time one reads book 10, one has seen Naru's panties so many times that the image is not even worth a second look. Of all the girls I always thought Motoko to be the most interesting; she always seemed so much less flat (character-wise) than the rest of the girls.
And I think I've run out.
That's pretty pointless... Everybody knows Motoko is the best character of all...

For some reason, I find Motoko abuse of Keitaro less disturbing, than Narus abuse of him. Perhaps its done with swords of something so therefore its less realistic, and more over the top.

Every series has its own running trend. This is just Love Hina's.
If you want to talk repetative beyond belief, take a look at the bazillion Gundam spinoffs.
In the end, it's always Peace -> War -> Fight -> Super Weapon -> Hero Wins -> Peace.
Hey look, Every gundam series in a nutshell.
But its still popular.
And before you Gundam fans get your panties all twisted up in a knot, yes I know the appeal of it is in the vastly immersive storyline and awsome storytelling, etc etc. But the overall storyarch really is the same over and over :p
