Building Mid-Range Gaming Rig

Name: Anonymous 2010-11-25 4:06

Well, I have been wanting to build a gaming rig for a few years now, but never got around to doing so due to the price. I only have a rough idea of what I want, but I thought now would be a good time to build one, since there's currently a Newegg sale going on. I wanted one kind of mid-ish spec range, nothing too fancy. Capable enough to run relatively modern games like Borderlands or LFD2 at 60FPS with "high" or "medium" settings, I can live without Crisis running at 9,001 FPS.

I have a budget of ~$600. Already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, 3.5" HDD, install disc, and have already picked out a nice set of DDR3 ram sticks.

I wasn't sure about where to go from here. I know I need some type of fan, video card, motherboard, case, and PSU but wasn't sure about which ones have the best balance between price and performance.

On new egg, you can sort items by "top selling".. It usually gives you a good idea of which items have the best performance to price ratio.

$600 isn't much for a "gaming rig", but all I will say is that almost all your money should go towards CPU and GPU, then the rest on case, etc..

600 will probably suffice if OP is planning to do his shopping on black friday.
