i've been useing both windows and mac alike for years now and have recently decided to run ubuntu (lolubuntufag) on an old computer. i would like to try t get it really running but the typical linux forums ive been seaching under cant seem to talk like actual people do. is there a place i can get a better understanding of linux?

Seconded. As long as they know at least enough to actually gather information and carry out advice. Everything else is a huge waste of time for everyone involved.
