I'm really considering buying a WD Raptor. Not the 150GB one with CARBON NANOTUBES, mind you, but the smaller 74 or 36 GB variaties, depending on what prices I can find. The idea here is I want to put my OS on it to decrease my boot time, but I'm not even sure that's going to help. Should this noticeably decrease the time it takes my computer to boot?
Also the best deal I can find on one of these is just less than 100 USD at newegg for the 36 GB one. What other good websites besides Newegg and Zipzoomfly should I check, and are there any other good hard drives that are 10K RPM?

It's a goddamn hard drive. Quit fagging.
Making sure your OS only loads the shit it needs (which means switching away from Windows, if you want to do it right) will be much more effective.

Fuck that. Build yourself a RAID 0 or RAID 10 made of 15k RPM SCSI drives. Make sure to use hardware RAID, 3ware 95xx or 96xx controllers are adequate. LSI is good as well from what I've heard.
I already do run linux, just to let you know. I like how everyone assumes you run windows if you don't specify, even the linux users. Anyway, I opted for a single 750GB WD, which is $50 less than the Raptor-X and holds 5 times the data. The speed boost isn't worth spending that much money on that little storage. Also RAIDs for speed are retarded. The only good reason to use a RAID is for data backup.

Maybe it's because you act like a Windows user?
If you run Linux, just fucking fix your bloat problem. My computer boots in ten seconds flat, and it's a goddamn Dell.
