BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system.
Your son may try to install "lunix" on your hard drive. If he is careful, you may not notice its presence, however, lunix is a capricious beast, and if handled incorrectly, your son may damage your computer, and even break it completely by deleting Windows, at which point you will have to have your computer repaired by a professional.
If you see the word "LILO" during your windows startup, your son has installed lunix. In order to get rid of it, you will have to send your computer back to the manufacturer, and have them fit a new hard drive. Lunix is extremely dangerous software, and cannot be removed without destroying part of your hard disk surface.

During my startup, it says "Grub". That means there's a bug in my system, right?
Srsly tho, this is fake. An old fake. Like that Dihydrogen Monoxide thing. It's a parody of how people's ignorance is being deliberately played on and used instead of remedied.
This is a serious thread and I am seriously interested by it, because I am a serious person.

You are kidding arent you ?
Are you saying that this linux can run on a computer without windows underneath it, at all ? As in, without a boot disk, without any drivers, and without any services ?
That sounds preposterous to me.
If it were true (and I doubt it), then companies would be selling computers without a windows. This clearly is not happening, so there must be some error in your calculations. I hope you realise that windows is more than just Office ? Its a whole system that runs the computer from start to finish, and that is a very difficult thing to acheive. A lot of people dont realise this.
Microsoft just spent $9 billion and many years to create Vista, so it does not sound reasonable that some new alternative could just snap into existence overnight like that. It would take billions of dollars and a massive effort to achieve. IBM tried, and spent a huge amount of money developing OS/2 but could never keep up with Windows. Apple tried to create their own system for years, but finally gave up recently and moved to Intel and Microsoft.
Its just not possible that a freeware like the Linux could be extended to the point where it runs the entire computer fron start to finish, without using some of the more critical parts of windows. Not possible.

I think you need to re-examine your assumptions.
j22zus (i like that, i should use it more often)
this is like 'Is you son doing drugs?
nevermind that ironically enough hacker friendly ISPs are 20 thousand times safer, and that you kid is probably just a poser. It really doesn't take much to hack, other then an actual understanding of computers and a lot of time to download sofwate.
Oh yeah, Fucking Troll

>>18 I'm sorry, but you are both incorrect and correct. Office is a component of Windows, correct, but Linux exists, and it isn't freeware: It's malware. Microsoft didn't spend any money on Windows, it was sent by God/Gods/Haruhi/Whoever you believe in. Read the OP more often.

>Are you saying that this linux can run on a computer without windows underneath it, at all ? As in, without a boot disk, without any drivers, and without any services ?
You're an idiot, Windows is an O/S (Operating System) just as Linux is, Unix, *BSD, OSX, etc. Each operating system has it's own type of services and it's own drivers. There is no need for a "boot disk" ever heard of that magical thing called MBR (master boot record) it tells the computer where to look for the OS so it can load. The core controlling of a computer occurs in through the BIOS. If you don't know these terms then I suggest you fucking google it.
>That sounds preposterous to me.
That's because you're an uneducated douche who likes to run his/her mouth off on subjects you know nothing of.
>If it were true (and I doubt it), then companies would be selling computers without a windows. This clearly is not happening, so there must be some error in your calculations.
Wrong again, computers are and have been being sold without windows, Lindows ring a bell? Now it's known as Linspire, it's just another distribution of Linux that has been sold pre-installed on computers. You can also get Ubuntu, SUSE, Xandros, RedHat, Mandrake (all Linux distributions) and even Solaris(a Unix variant) pre-installed on purchased computers. Dell is even selling computers with Ubuntu on them.
>I hope you realize that windows is more than just Office ? Its a whole system that runs the computer from start to finish, and that is a very difficult thing to achieve. A lot of people don't realize this.
Office?? Office has nothing to do with windows, Windows and Office are completely separate, they don't even come together. Office runs on Windows, but it also runs on OSX, so you can't try and play dumb like windows is the only OS since microsoft has ported office to the Mac.
>Microsoft just spent $9 billion and many years to create Vista,
Vista does not have $9 billion worth of work put into it, that just made some changes to the existing NT base and added some new security services along with a changed GUI.
so it does not sound reasonable that some new alternative could just snap into existence overnight like that. It would take billions of dollars and a massive effort to achieve.
It didn't just snap into existence overnight, it's been around since 1991 and it has been being developed since. The Linux Kernel has more work put into it than the Windows Kernel. Linux is being worked on and improved everyday, the only times you get an update for Windows is when they are informed of their flaws in Windows, so they are forced to release a security update. Next time you want what they call "improved" you have to shell out more money while with Linux you can go and download the new kernel for free.
>IBM tried, and spent a huge amount of money developing OS/2 but could never keep up with Windows.
IBM is doing fine with their Unix OS with corporations and they also donate to help improve Linux.
Apple tried to create their own system for years, but finally gave up recently and moved to Intel and Microsoft.
They didn't "give up", they have their own kernel called Darwin, and their system is based on FreeBSD which is another *nix like OS just as Linux is.
Its just not possible that a freeware like the Linux could be extended to the point where it runs the entire computer fron start to finish, without using some of the more critical parts of windows. Not possible.
Seriously, go outside and shoot yourself, that way your mom doesn't have to clean the mess up off the carpet. Your statment is so idiotic that I won't even respond to it.
