Installing secondary hard drive.

I want to install a secondary hard drive to a friend's computer.  The primary is a 20GB Maxtor 92041U4 and I want to add a 20GB Maxtor D740X-6L.

The primary has been in use and is over half full, OS and other media.  The second one also has an OS.  I set them both to the appropriate Master/Slave jumper configurations, and it just says "No Operating System".  Do I have to get the OS off of the second one?  I'm kind of at a loss, I've never done this.  Thanks a lot.

no, you dont need to remove it, i got windows xp home ed (original) and xp pro (pirated) somehow the original must be the primary master or else it wont work.

acutally u just need to set the jumper correctly and plug it, that is all, its auto detect, check your bios if it detect both ur hdd or not

Yeah, actually, I got it to work on Cable Select, I think.  Or my cables were just jumbled.  Now it's not detecting the CD drive. lol 

Is it reccomended to have an OS on the second hard drive?  What's easier or more helpful in the long run?
