Excercise

I figure this is the best place in all of 4chan to ask this question: I want to start running, so how do I do it?

I've never really exercised at all my life, so this is a very foreign concept to me. I'm fairly thin, 5'10" and about 125 pounds. I'm in horrible shape, though, and can sometimes feel my lungs burn after climbing a couple flights of stairs or while power-walking to class. I smoke recreationally (<1 cigarette per day, normally only on the weekends when I go out), and feel like I should somehow compensate through excercise and healthy eating. I know how to eat healthily, so that brings me back to my original question; how the fuck do I run?

Hey

Hmmm, I'll try to give you some advice based on my exp, bare in mind we are all individuals so it may not work for you, or you can modify it. I started jogging at an easy pace, for about three days a week for two weeks. By "easy pace" I mean that you can carry a conversation while jogging. The third week, I didn't jog at all, I swam and cycled. Then I went back to jogging at a slightly faster pace, after two weeks of that, I started interval runs. Warm up for two minutes at an easy pace, then haul ass for 30 seconds, then easy pace again...repeat. I started with 5 intervals. Then built up to 20. By the time I could do twenty intervals of 30 seconds at a hard pace, I began slowing it down and jogging for longer. After that 8 miles in a hour was a piece of  delicious cake for me. Like I said, this worked for me. Trying reading some running magazines. Also, get some comfy shoes and read this book http://www.footworkpub.com/FYF.html
If you get shinsplints, ease of the running and hit the swimming/cycling, if those alternatives still hurt your feet, try a rowing machine. If you do get mad shinsplints, you can ease some of it by laying a weight plate on your toes (CAREFULLY) and lifting yours toes up & down, that built the muscles of my shins, and eventually got rid of my shinsplints. Anywho, Like I said, this is an example try things out on your own, two things that I do stress alot though are propers footwear and proper foot care.... Bonne Chance

You'll get even skinnier. Start lifting some weights.

Don't change these.
