Sound neutralizer

As you all know, if you have two identical soundwaves where one of them is 180 degrees out of phase, the sound will be eleminated or neutralized.

Does it exsist a program that recieve sound from the microphone, and generates a 180 degrees out of phase soundwave out the speakers?

It would help me studying, since my neighbor have bad taste in music.

earplugs.  If you can't phase out the sound, just reduce the decibels.

or you could buy sound-eliminating headphones and play your own music through them.

I think that's the theory behind those noise-cancellation headphones, but they never seem to work as good as advertised IMO.

Assuming your neighbors are dicks (very likely) who won't turn down/off their music just because they're pissing everyone off and you asked nicely (or called the cops), you have two options: Wear earplugs or move.

I had an apartment full of mexicans living below me once, and not only did my apartment smell like a burrito all day, but I was forced to listen to that shitty hiphop/polka music you hear wherever mexicans are.  I complained to the landlord over and over, who did nothing.  I banged on my floor/their ceiling constantly (when it was clear that more polite methods weren't going to work), etc etc.

If you get good, high power earplugs that might solve your problem, depending on how loud it actually is, but if you leave them in your ears for long periods of time, they can start to hurt.  At walmart they sell these big tubs full of 50 purple earplugs for like $10 that block noise very well and are pretty soft.

I ended up moving myself, but that was more due to the smell than the noise, actually.

Get the Mexicans to help steal some concrete panels and line your whole fuckin' place with them.  Maybe two layers of the shit.
