Help. Losing my mind.

Cu+HNO3 -> What?

I have 3 theories:
1) 3Cu + 8HNO3 -> 3Cu(NO3)2 + 4H2O + 2NO seems most viable
2) Cu + HNO3 -> CuNO3 + H2 too easy to be true.
3) Cu + HNO3 -> no reaction, since Copper is lower on the Activity Series of Metals than Hydrogen, and thus will not replace the hydrogen in the nitric acid.

Also, thanks.

Correction at 2)
I mean Cu + 2HNO3 -> Cu(NO3)2 + H2

In chemistry, we do experiments to find shit out.

Do an experiment and measure for NO.

I obviously can't, or I'd do them.

Yeah just go with the easiest answer, in school you don't want to overthink these things.

I need the right answer, not the easiest. ;)
I'd say the right one is 1), but the equation is theoretical at best because of 3)

Having dropped a coin in Nitric Acid, I can assure you the ansver is not 3). You may want to check Wikipedia, it holds the answer.

Thanks, I just understood. 3) is why 2) is not possible, but 1) and the one from Wikipedia is. Sorry for being a retard.
Again, many thanks.

this is science, where everyone is wrong, but few will admit it.

Don't change these.
