There is no such thing as talent

Indefinite commitment and constant practice to the exclusion of everything else is what makes an indistinguishable everyman into a world-class performer in any branch of human activity.

Agree/disagree?

Talent is being good at something without practice.  Of course it exists.  Being great without practice is a whole nother issue.

but maybe being good at something without practice is only because they've developed that part of their brain doing another activity. For example, say someone is an avid gamer, and the first time they drive a car they are really good, but that's just because they've increased their visual-spatial intelligence by playing so many games.

We could solve a lot of questions if we weren't so interested in ethics during studies. Lolz.

To ignore the natural disposition to talent is to say that all other genetic traits are equal. In other words, not everyone is short and not everyone is tall.

If you suck at everything by nature you might wanna think that.

That's a blatant lie.  A claim that talent is unaffected by genetics would not equate to a claim that human genes are entirely equal.

Now, what you could say, which is entirely different, is that given the dissimilarity in many other features of humans due to genetics, it seems reasonable to suggest that genetics play a role in predisposition and certain abilities.

Why isn't "indefinite commitment and constant practice to the exclusion of everything else" a TALENT?

In concentration? Sure.

You misunderstand the full potential of definition for the word 'talent'. It is not mere proficiency in a culture-created system but an innate understanding and working manipulation of the forms which brought our areas of specialization into realization.

Even with that definition, it doesn't necessarily encompass the entirety of human genetics.

>>12
That's because the entirety of human genetics obviously isn't distinguishable by talent alone. Don't sage as if you think you've disproved anything.

It causes me great pain when somebody does not go into an academic field because they say they don't have the "talent" for it. I do not believe "talent" exists, at all.

It causes me great pain when I find that I am unable to run Half-Life 2 on an Atari 2600.

I've disproved the theory that your reading comprehension is adequate.
