Maple Anyone?

Name: Anonymous 2007-07-18 21:58 ID:i5u34xKP

So, I'm getting ready to start my freshman year in college.  I'm skipping Calc I because of AP credit, so I'm going into Calc II, but I haven't learned how to use Maple.  Does anyone know of any good tutorials for Maple that focus on the sort of knowledge I need for Calc II?

My calculus classes never required the use of syrup bearing trees.

Ok, anyone who wants to tell me about the mathematical utility software?

you dont use software for maths you use pen and paper
thread over

Well, If I wanted responses from assholes, I would have posted on /b/, thanks, dicks.

This is 2, I said that jokingly, but the only class I've used software for is a linear algebra class, and it was fairly unnecessary there as well.  There's benefits to using them, I suppose, but they're not difficult to learn; you could do it on your own if you felt it was necessary.  It doesn't actually aid at all in developing an understanding of the subject.  So, you can ask your professor if you really want, but I don't think anybody familiar with calculus is going to take the idea of familiarity with a program being necessary knowledge seriously.

If Newton didn't need any fancy calculator, then surely you can do with out one.

here is everything you need to know for calc 2:

diff(f,x);

int(f,x);

and if you do infinite series and taylor expansions:

sum(f, k=m..n);

taylor(expression, x=a, n);

Well, whether Newton used the shit or not, if it is a class requirement, it's a class requirement, dumbass.

America = slowpoke. Calculus in university? It's taught to like 15-16 year olds, here.

It's taught to 15-16 year old in America too, troll.  If they want to learn it, that is.

Google - have you heard of it?

Calculating devices are good to experiment with, but I recommend that you do not become overly reliant on them.

Yeh, #13, except that the public school systems that govern most of American primary education are not eager to produce the Calculus for students as a standard course.  Sure, plenty of schools have a Calc class; too many students are NOT in it.  Most the students are railroaded (recall they are minors and therefore require GUIDANCE) into HappyMathâ„¢ courses that mis-serve the very idea of a sound foundation of math.

It sounds like your rightwingnuttery has gotten the better of you, since you're implying that CHILDREN are expected to have the same self responsibility as ADULTS.  They do NOT, by definition.  Therefore, it's incumbent upon parents, teachers, administrators and the general public (which funds the schools) to insist CHILD students to take the maximum courses they can withstand.  It's not the fault of the students; it's OURS (which includes YOU).

"Aww, my child is doing moar than 2 hrs of homework a day.  He's having such a hard time.  He should take easier classes so that he can play moar video games and eat moar cheeseburgers.  I need to complain to the school board just because I can."
