Logic

Do you think logic, like predicate logic should be taught in high school? How complex do you think they should go? Should all the mathy looking symbols be used or just normal words?

I think logic should be taught; it is a sort of skill and very useful because people can grasp sentences better and identify contradictions and so no.

logic, philosophy, and interpretation need to be taught in highschool. Highschool is pretty much like this, Information with no explanation of fundamentals or connections to early information>Drill into head>Take test>forget knowledge>Repeat

Yep

Philosophy (and logic) needs to be taught in schools, I know of some classes that offer a tad classical philosophy but it ends there. Im not even sure if highschool students are even capable of handling the issues that spring up after the Greeks though. I mean you can’t get anywhere after Kant without teaching him, and I would be surprised if the majority of students could even understand his points. Most college students can’t even grasp these issues.

Maybe we could teach non Kantian inspired philosophy, like Neinchze and the like. But pouring (mostly) continental philosophy on students that have no interest in the subject is silly and many would gain nothing from such endeavors.

Logic on the other hand is important for everyone and I believe it should be included in highschool; I would have killed for the opportunity to take a model logic class at that age.

Not philosophy. Let the children find their own ideas without having to pass through the ramblings of a bunch of dead guys.

My high school taught logic.. we didn't use the "mathy looking symbols", and we didn't go very far in depth, but we covered the basics. Maybe the first third or so of a university level mathematical logic course.

Also, I wouldn't want philosophy to be taught in high schools. If the mouth breathing dimwits that pass for philosophy professors at my university are representative of all philosophy professors, than I can only imagine that high school level philosophy would be taught by a homeless schizophrenic pedophile who shredded up a copy of Plato's Republic to start a fire one time.

Highschool Philosophy basically covers Realism,Idealism,Naturalism, and Transcendentalist.
Logic might be taught in Math, but very basic.
Also we need a anthropology class, so the racists will look stupid

Also we need a multi-cultural diversity class, so we can let kids know we think they are racist and need indoctrination and push liberal ideology on them.*
