Depends on what kinds of OS you want and how much effort you can take.
Your OS has no chance of becoming mainstream or even successful. If you want to waste years of your life in futile effort to catch up to mainstream OSes you're welcome. If not, your toy OS may interest major OS developers who would want to implement some of your features and thats it.

The most realistic OS goal anyone here should start with is a ``hello world'' OS (basically just a bootloader). It's not a fully-fledged OS project, but that's kind of an overly-ambitious project for a single person. A bright programmer could easily program an amazing OS on their own. The issue after that is software and capitalism.

Or make it so good that people will want to and have to start using it. That way you get people to program the software for it or get the military to do it.

As someone who hates e/g/in/g/ros, it would be nice to see /prog/ memes being ruined and popularized into le imagereddits. Mainly because that would mean I invented many imagereddit memes! Just kidding..

Which reminds me, once a thread on /g/ about some ``secure Skype replacement'' was posted here. I went there and realized they stoleculturally enriched themselves with the epic memes of Satori and SICP.

Some of them even know Satori is also a Touhou character, which is amazing enough, given the fact they barely know Flandre and Cirno because of the e/b/in image macros.

I'll tell you a secret why your AutismOS is unlikely to succeed,
Its because your OS is built to be incompatible with mainstream drivers,standards,apps and games.
If your OS could natively(or almost natively) run windows drivers,games,apps and use all features of windows/max/lunix(i.e. being useful from the start) it will be a success.
But no. AutismOS will only support your own drivers, apps have to be ported and games are for "faggots" who can't appreciate the terminal and VGA pallete.
Just to provide perspective, Early windows was built to be compatible with all aspects of DOS.
Early Lunix was (somewhat)compatible with Minix and supported POSIX/Unix userland,
Only Macs had the luxury of "NIH autism" working since Apple controlled the hardware at the time and even then they were expensive shit for niche audience(hipsters and idiots with cash to spare, as always).
