The most realistic OS goal anyone here should start with is a ``hello world'' OS (basically just a bootloader). It's not a fully-fledged OS project, but that's kind of an overly-ambitious project for a single person. If you set your goals too high, you'll be more likely to give up, much like /g/ and their ``secure'' Skype replacement.
