My "I don't give a shit" understanding is: we have this finite simple group that has the largest order known. There's a complex-valued function (which represents an elliptic curve) whose series expansion yields coefficients that correspond to the dimensions of matricies that we can use to generate elements of said group through matrix multiplication.
I genuinely have no idea. The guy who proved this connection won a Fields Medal. If someone finds something cool, you can probably publish a paper. To be honest though, this isn't really interesting to me at all. RSA being secure is more mathematically interesting to me than this.
Apparently it's useful to string theory, which I don't know anything about, except that it has apparently provided no useful experimental results which, I think, is the point of physics. It all strikes me as applying mathematical tools to physical theory that someone else created and then calling yourself a genius. I'm ignorant, however, so that's a non-professional opinion.
well, well, what's this here thread not doing on the front page? Not but that I reckon not!

I'm too busy shit posting. Maybe I'll get to it next week. In the mean time I'll keep it on the front page.
I don't think >>41-sama dying would help >>41-sama contribute to the study of the monster group. So >>41-sama should rule out your suggestion.

When Ogg heard about the Monster group later on, and noticed that these were precisely the prime factors of the size of M, he published a paper offering a bottle of Jack Daniel's whiskey to anyone who could explain this fact.
Is this offer still open?
