6.034

I expect most people here have done 6.001 (if not I strongly recommend it)

So now I'm thinking 6.034 would be fun to do online

who is with me? I asked another text board but didn't get a great response.

Looks interesting, saved to bookmarks. I'm going to start with 6.001 though, I still haven't read my SICP :(

Honest question. Is SICP still relevant or is another course more worthy of my time?

If you're asking this question, you might want to learn Javashit or the flavor-of-the-month programming language on Hacker Jews.

I'm asking this question because I'm not undertaking any formal computer science studies and do not plan on making a living off of it.
You can choose to praise ignorance and give me a blatantly stupid answer, or you can decide to respect someone who only wishes to learn, and who needs a starting point.

Clearly, I have very little knowledge of computer science, hence my question.

Then it's not a good book for you. You're supposed to have basic notions about (differential) calculus, some discrete math and of course basic computer science methods such as recursion.

In that case, yes, SICP is very relevant since it's more abstract than a lot of intro courses that concentrate on teaching a specific language rather than general programming concepts.

Thanks guys, I think I'll give it a try and if I just cannot do it, I'll try some easier classes first.

I took AI from Norvig and Thrun (online obviously) and Machine Learning from Ng.  Good luck, though, and have fun.

Not really related, but the AI course gave a broader overview, and ML got into the line-by-line implementations of ML algorithms.  Either is great, and there's very little overlap.

Unless you are using technology that could run AI, it's a waste of time. You could focus on game AI but then you'd just be a faggot who fucks up ACIV.

Friends don't let friends read SICP

People who read SICP don't have friends.

having friends is overrated
