Then you can pick Head First Java, Android for Dummies, or anything like that.

Professional Android dev here. When I'm training a new hire I typically send them over to developer.android.com. I've found that better than any book. Don't bother learning systems programming in Java first.

Professional Android dev here. Android is shit, learn Objective C and make shitty apps for iOS instead, it's easier and much more profitable.

Professional iOS dev here. iOS (and specially xcode) is shit, learn LISP and code some HFT for Bitcoin, it's puch more profitable ;)

>In general, you should only use the NDK if it is essential to your app—never because you simply prefer to program in C/C++.

Why the fuck did Google have to rescue Java from its deathbed? It would have died peacefully by now if it weren't for Android, and there are a lot of better languages they could have used.

Yeah, even Runescape is being ported from Java to HTML5. Runescape is developed by Jagex, or Java Gaming Experts.

When a company whose name involves Java is ditching the language, you know it's shit.

They were kind of forced to do that by the fact that Java in the browser is now always one of:
1. Unsupported
2. Disabled for security reasons
3. A non-Sun/Oracle implementation that doesn't support any version of Java newer than about 1995.
4. Outdated and full of security holes
5. Up to date and full of security holes
6. Running in a VM and slow as fuck
