How do you deal with it?

I have to respond as well.

I've always been bummed about my life from lack of a social life (around 13 years old when I moved to a new town). They made fun of me because I was brown and this was around 9/11.

I remember the backlash against muslims people who appear to be muslim people who appear to be muslim to americunts when I was in school myself, post 9/11. I would have beaten up your ignorant classmates with you had I been there. I apologize on the behalf of my country.

I think it started to sink in after I graduated college and working at a lab doing generic engineering work with a retarded manager.

I agree with >>17. An abusive manager is the worst, regardless of your profession. Get out of there as soon as you can, if you are still there and if it is still a problem. Not every job is like that.

I would like to program, but I feel like a mental midget.

The only people that aren't mental midgets by their own standards have stopped trying to climb, and are no longer regularly confronted with their current lacking in abilities. But they are the most foolish, and the most stunted of all. Don't worry about feeling incapable. It only reaffirms that you are developing new skills.

I like programming in C, but it seems like in order to succeed in this programming language I would be forced to really learn libraries that would make me hate programming (windows api or one of the many bad network protocol libraries.)

While this is true to a degree, and learning how to learn libraries is about as interesting as cleaning vomit off of floors, you can find the motivation to do it once you see what you can make using the library. Also the windows API is a horrendous pile of shit.

There seems for no way to be happy.

I don't think I have advice for this one. >>17 is good. A nice environment is helpful. If you can't do that, then find a like minded community, which is one of the forces that pull me back to /prok/
