I know Erlang string handling in general has been terrible! for a long time but this should have had some attention at some point by now? What the shit is JavaScript is doing up there at the top anyway? I refuse to believe this madness.

Okay, I check further and... why is this filed under "interesting alternative"? The source code looks legit, wtf?

What kind of a benchmark is regex speed?

Oh dear fuck, you just invoked the Javashit kike.

The V8 project is an important project if you consider fast JS on the web to be important. This is why Google places a lot of talent on JS to help it be as optimal as it can.

That "C" program is actually using Tcl regexp engine. Unfortunately none of the C submissions wrote their own, as otherwise it'd be easy to beat JS.

>What the shit is JavaScript is doing up there at the top anyway?
it has a jit for its regex engine

i'd imagine the others don't

Face it: in a test of regex performance, JavaScript wins. I'm sorry for you C adherents. It must feel terrible to lose to a "slow" language.

The Javashit kike sure loves using multiple identities.

That doesn't make any sense a well crafted c program could just use the javascript engine through an api. This is a test of libraries, not languages, and even then, it's a test of implementations, not languages.

Name: Anonymous 2013-01-17 23:38

That's the fastest category for Javashits anyway, things get worse quickly from there. I also find it a bit strange that a language implementation with this much attention on the benchmarks game has 3 programs missing (which could potentially move the mean cpu time up, bringing it down the rankings), programs like pidigits. Lua, Erlang, etc. are only missing 1.

'why is this filed under "interesting alternative"?'

That program rewrites the regular expressions as string variants and then uses sub-string search and replace (ala Boyer-More and Aho-Corassick).

"which could potentially move the mean cpu time up, bringing it down the rankings"

So that's why the median is shown.

"I know Erlang string handling in general has been terrible!"

Contribute an Erlang program that actually does use regular expressions for everything with the RE module.
