Python is terrible!

Name: Anonymous 2013-01-15 1:31

Why do people use it? I've been learning Ruby at my work and it's infinitely better - no FIOC, half-assed OO implementation, shitty multithreading, no decent CPAN/Gems equivalent. Ruby is so much cleaner and easier to code with. Not to mention, Ruby is faster than Python according to the latest benchmarks: http://benchmarksgame.alioth.debian.org/u32/benchmark.php?test=all&lang=all

C gcc median score 1.01
Haskell GHC median score 2.46
Lisp SBCL median score 3.43
Racket median score 5.40

Ruby median score 53.12
Python median score 53.73
Perl 69.36

I don't want to have to check my privilege every time I start up an interpreter.

My python has no nose. How does he smell? Terrible!

The bencmark fucks my mind... So, the bigger the number, the slower they are? Or what?

Name: Anonymous 2013-01-15 8:05

You mean more time passing during execution means the program is slower? I find that very unlikely.

Name: Anonymous 2013-01-15 9:16

Serious post here!

I prefer ruby as a language ,  but ruby sockets are SLOW AS FUCK.

Python is much speedier but I hate it's lack of closures

Name: Anonymous 2013-01-15 9:46

Neither of those languages are Scheme, >>13. Almost there, though! Have another shot!

no FIOC

It's for your own good.

half-assed OO implementation

wrong

shitty multithreading

wrong, that's a CPython implementation detail, it's different in PyPy, for instance

no decent CPAN/Gems equivalent

PyPI

You should try Golang

Name: Anonymous 2013-01-15 11:12

Matz's Ruby has a GIL as well (the Global VM Lock). If you're going to fault CPython for shitty multithreading, Ruby should lose points as well.

Scripting languages... they're all shit

Good thing I'm into scat.

Being merely better than Perl doesn't cut it anymore. All slow shit languages with crappy culture will go extinct in the mad dash towards power efficiency.

Name: Anonymous 2013-01-15 14:23

Being merely better than Perl
Blasphemy! There is no such thing.

Name: Anonymous 2013-01-15 22:07

One of those benchmarks shows Ruby being slower than the damned-slow C interpreter.
